Realme-8 series expands with new 5G model

The new Realme 8 5G is a new smartphone from the manufacturer that should not only offer 5G, but also other new features. Among other things, the MediaTek Dimensity 700 is a solid mid-range chip under the hood. The display also sounds very promising thanks to a Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. We take a look at what the newcomer of the Realme 8 series has to offer, at least on paper.

Inexpensive newcomer

The number of inexpensive mid-range smartphones is growing and growing. Meanwhile, Realme has also established itself in this country as an increasingly popular manufacturer of corresponding smartphones. This was made clear not least by the Pro version of the Realme 8. Now a new smartphone is launched that wants to offer even more in terms of price-performance. The number one reason for buying it is probably the support of the 5G mobile standard. The heart of the Realme 8 5G is the MediaTek Dimensity 700, which consists of two potent ARM Cortex-A76 cores (up to 2.2 GHz) and a total of six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores (2.0 GHz).

Realme also seems to have a lot to offer in terms of display for the low price. The 6.5-inch display is supposed to come with a resolution of FullHD+ and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The maximum brightness of 600 nits is also pleasingly high in view of the mid-range that Realme targets. Realme does not reinvent the wheel in terms of cameras either, but the specs are still very good for a mid-range smartphone. A selfie camera with a resolution of 16 megapixels is on the front. The camera module, which consists of three different lenses, is on the back. Besides the main camera, which has a resolution of 48 megapixels, there are two other sensors with a resolution of 2 megapixels each. It is not surprising that video recordings are only possible with a maximum of 1,080p.

Realme obviously relies on a pleasantly long battery life. The battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. That should make video playback of up to 21 hours possible, for example. Should the battery ever be empty, it can be charged with 18 watts. That is a bit sobering in view of the fast charging feature that other Realme smartphones offer.

Prices and availability

Manufacturer Realme offers its Realme 8 5G in different versions. The buyer can choose between a version with 4 GB and a version with 8 GB of working memory. Meanwhile, the two variants do not differ in terms of internal storage. Both versions have 128 GB of flash storage. However, this can be conveniently expanded via microSD card. Realme initially only wants to launch its new mid-range 5G smartphone in Thailand. The small version with 4 GB of working memory is supposed to cost around 265 Euros.
