After a extensive leak in December last year, Realme has officially unveiled its new smartphones. The Realme GT 2 and GT 2 Pro rely on high-end SoCs, and the Pro model even uses the brand-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The camera setup also sounds promising.
The specs of the Realme GT 2 Pro: A real Android flagship
The two smartphones, Realme GT 2 and Realme GT 2 Pro, are supposed to score with a premium value for money. In the case of the Pro model, the manufacturer relies on the brand-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, which is supposed to provide a noticeable increase in performance compared to the previous Snapdragon 888. The same is used in the normal GT 2.
The new SoC is supported by a maximum of 12 GB of working memory and 512 GB of UFS 3.1 system storage, which cannot be expanded, though. Alternatively, the smartphone is also available with 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB storage.
For the design, Realme has teamed up with Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa and created a smartphone back made of biopolymer that is supposed to feel like paper in the hand.
Display and battery
In terms of display, the GT 2 Pro relies on a 6.7-inch 2K AMOLED display (1440 x 3216 pixels) with second-generation LTPO technology and 525 ppi. The frame rate is dynamically controlled between 1 Hz and 120 Hz. Robust Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protects the screen from scratches.
Peak brightness is 1,400 nits, while a contrast ratio of 5,000,000 to one is achieved. A 100 percent DCI-P3 color space coverage rounds off the successful display. As for the battery, the GT 2 Pro offers a capacity of 5,000 mAh, which can be charged via USB-C with up to 65 watts. The smartphone should then be fully charged from zero to 100 percent in just 30 minutes.
Realme GT 2 with cutbacks
The manufacturer relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC for the normal Realme GT 2. In addition, the display is a bit smaller at 6.62 inches. The AMOLED panel’s resolution reaches Full HD plus, while a dynamic refresh rate of 120 Hz is also offered.
Again, at least eight gigabytes of working memory and 128 gigabytes of internal storage are available. On the other hand, there are no differences between the Realme GT 2 and GT 2 Pro in terms of battery size and charging speed.
The camera setup
The standard and Pro models also share much of the camera setup. On the back, they rely on a 50-megapixel main camera with Sony IMX766 in 1/1.56-inch format, which has optical image stabilization.
In addition, there is an ultra-wide-angle camera with a field of view of 119 degrees in the GT 2, and the same with a field of view of 150 degrees – based on the Samsung JN1 – in the GT 2 Pro. Another macro lens is used in the base model, but Realme did not mention details. The Pro version, on the other hand, also has a microscope camera with a 40x zoom. Both models rely on the Sony IMX615 sensor with a resolution of 32 megapixels as the front camera.
Prices and availability
As is typical for the manufacturer, the Realme GT 2 and Realme GT 2 Pro will initially be offered exclusively on the Chinese market, but will then also find their way to Europe. There is no concrete date for the launch in Germany yet.
In China, the basic model starts at around 375 Euros. The Realme GT 2 Pro comes with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB flash memory for 3,899 yuan (equivalent to around 542 euro) on the market, the top model with 12 GB working memory and 512 GB system memory is priced at 4,999 yuan, which is equivalent to around 695 euro.
