Xiaomi has unveiled the entire Redmi Note 17 series in China. While the Pro model is positioned as a well-equipped mid-range smartphone, the standard Redmi Note 17 clearly focuses on a low entry-level price.
Huge 7-inch display with high brightness
The base model features a 7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2396 x 1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a peak brightness of up to 1,800 nits. According to Xiaomi, the panel also achieves a touch sampling rate of 2,160 Hz, which is designed to ensure reliable input recognition even under challenging conditions.
Entry-Level Chip, but Unusually Large Battery
The device is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, a SoC designed for the entry-level segment without any standout features. It is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The real highlight is the 8,000-mAh battery, which is unusually large for this price range—its predecessor had a capacity of 5,800 mAh.
Charging is supported at up to 45 watts, and other devices can also be powered via reverse charging at 22.5 watts. When it comes to camera features, however, Xiaomi has kept things simple: There’s just a 50-MP main camera on the back, and an 8-MP front-facing camera for selfies. Rounding out the features are a microSD card slot supporting up to 2 TB, NFC, and IP65 water resistance.
Significantly cheaper than the Pro model
The base configuration with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage costs the equivalent of about 170 euros in China, while the top-of-the-line model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage costs about 220 euros. This positions the standard Redmi Note 17 well below the Pro model, which boasts a larger battery and faster charging.
By comparison: According to recent leaks, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is expected to be even more powerful, featuring a 10,100-mAh battery and a 200-MP camera. It remains to be seen whether the base model’s large display and generous battery will hold up in everyday use—its predecessor, the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G, had already impressed in tests with its long battery life. Xiaomi has not yet commented on a market launch outside of China.
