3D scanning has long been a compromise: precision versus flexibility, indoor versus outdoor use, smooth versus dark surfaces. With the Revopoint POP 4, this forced compromise is a thing of the past. The new hybrid scanner combines blue laser and infrared technology in one compact device – AI-supported, wireless and ready for almost any scenario. We take a closer look at the laser expert’s exciting Kickstarter project.
Dual-band & five scan modes: one scanner for everything
The heart of the POP 4 is its dual-band system consisting of a blue multi-line laser, near-infrared structured light and VCSEL structured light. This combination enables five dedicated scan modes that seamlessly cover both indoor and outdoor scenarios:
- Full-Field HD Scanning – marker-free, highly detailed scanning of people and object-rich workpieces
- VCSEL Rapid Scanning – fast detection of large workpieces and outdoor areas without markers, even in direct sunlight
- Hybrid HD Scanning – combined mode for maximum flexibility
- 30-Cross Blue Laser Lines Scanning – precise detection of dark, shiny or metallic surfaces without scanning spray
- Single-Line Deep Hole Scanning – especially for deep holes and hard-to-reach cavities

| Object size | Small to medium-sized |
| Operation | Handheld & Desktop |
AI-supported target detection in real time
The POP 4 integrates Real-Time AI Object Segmentation & Tracking: the system automatically recognizes which areas should be scanned and concentrates the detection on them. This saves post-processing time and increases accuracy because irrelevant surrounding areas are not detected in the first place.
All-weather use: outdoor without restrictions
Many scanners quickly reach their limits in daylight. The POP 4 works reliably at up to 100,000 lux – the equivalent of direct midday sunlight. Building facades, vehicles, sculptures or monuments can also be scanned outdoors without a studio setup.
3D Gaussian splatting: photorealism at the touch of a button
In addition to classic polygon meshes, the POP 4 supports 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS). This creates photorealistic, immersive 3D models from the scan data, which can be exported in splat format – ideal for VR/AR development, digital visualizations and interactive presentations.
Wireless. Everywhere. Up to 4 hours.
The supplied 5,500 mAh battery pack supplies the POP 4 with the required power for around four hours. Control is wireless via smartphone or tablet. Studio, workshop, museum, construction site or outdoor use at the customer’s premises – the POP 4 is ready for use anywhere, without a power socket and without tangled cables.
Seamless workflow in the Revopoint ecosystem
The POP 4 is fully integrated into Revopoint’s software stack. Scan → processing → analysis or design – all in one cohesive software environment:
- Revo Scan – data acquisition and processing
- Revo Measure – professional measurement technology and GD&T analysis
- Revo Design – reverse engineering and scan-to-CAD
The scan data is imported directly into the desired subsequent application with a single click – without any detours via third-party providers.
Who is the POP 4 suitable for?
The POP 4 is aimed at prosumers and professionals alike:
- 3D printing enthusiasts who want to digitize everyday objects or projects with precision
- VR/AR developers who need photorealistic 3D assets for immersive applications
- Car modifiers and vehicle designers who capture body and component geometries
- Heritage preservationists who digitally preserve cultural monuments and historical objects
- Product designers and engineers who record actual geometries for reverse engineering
