Samsung C34G55T – 34-inch gaming monitor with 165 Hz and 1,000R introduced

The new Samsung Odyssey G5 C34G55T is positioned below the already long available Odyssey G7 and Odyssey G9 gaming monitors. With a 34-inch diagonal in 21:9 format, a resolution of 3,440 × 1,440 pixels and a refresh rate of 165 Hz, the “little brother” of the G7 and G9 has nothing to hide. The characteristic curvature of 1,000R has also been retained to create the most immersive gaming experience possible.

The technical data make the Samsung Odyssey G5 C34G55T practically the sister model of the C27G55T and the C32G55T. However, instead of WQHD and 144 Hz, the Odyssey G5 C34G55T offers a slightly higher refresh rate and more pixels in width when overclocking is active.

With a contrast ratio of 2,500:1 and a maximum brightness of 250 cd/m², the VA-panel of the gaming monitor is in the midfield. A DisplayHDR certification or AMD FreeSync Premium Pro has not received the display, however. Most gamers should still be happy with the Samsung Odyssey G5 C34G55T thanks to the high refresh rate and the Moving Picture Response Time (MPRT) of only 1ms.

The Samsung Odyssey G5 C34G55T lacks ergonomics

On the negative side, the poor ergonomics of the gaming monitor is striking. The Samsung Odyssey G5 C34G55T’s stand only allows the display to be tilted forwards and backwards, but not height-adjusted. Thanks to the VESA mount, however, an alternative stand can be used.

The monitor is connected via DisplayPort 1.4 (1x) or HDMI 2.0 (1x). A jack plug (3.5 mm) is also available. USB ports or RGB lights were not installed for cost reasons.

The Odyssey G7/G9 also lacks the Quantum-Dot-Backlight for more colors. The color depth is therefore only 8 bits per RGB channel instead of 10 bits. Functions for gamers such as the “Low Input Lag Mode” and the “Black Equalizer” as well as the “Low Blue Light Mode”, which is pleasant for long working hours, are available.

In Germany, the monitor will be released in the coming days for about 520 Euro. Some dealers already offer the device, but it is not available. An alternative is currently the AOC CU34G3S, which has similar specifications and is available immediately for 599 Euro.
