Samsung Galaxy Active4 Pro launches as rugged outdoor tablet

With the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro, the manufacturer continues its lineup of rugged outdoor tablets. It features a particularly robust frame, advanced productivity features and the Samsung Knox security platform.

“When developing the versatile Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro, we made sure to create a tablet that is not only rugged and easy to use, but also has the appropriate performance and connectivity to help employees stay productive during their workday,” reveals Christoph Gaußmann, senior product & solution manager B2B at Samsung Electronics GmbH.

The result is a robust tablet, which nevertheless comes along with 10.1 mm quite slim and 674 grams on the scale. Thus, it is also well positioned for outdoor use, while it is additionally protected thanks to Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

It can withstand drops from a height of up to 1 m, and even drops from up to 1.2 m with the included protective cover. As an additional layer of protection, the Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro and its integrated S Pen are protected against dust and water according to IP68, while the military standard MIL-STD-810H promises additional protection.

The technology in the Active4 Pro

Technically, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro relies on a 10.1-inch TFT display including WUXGQ resolution (1,920 x 1,200 pixels), although Samsung does not provide any information about its brightness and refresh rate.

An Octa-Cora CPU with clock rates of 2.4 GHz and 1.8 GHz is installed, which is supported by 6 GB of working memory and 128 GB of system memory. The latter can be expanded by up to 1 TB via micro-SD card.

The Android tablet also supports NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1. There is also a 3.5 mm jack, as well as Wi-Fi 6 in the standards 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz), HE80, MIMO, 1024-QAM. A 5G model is also offered.

The battery holds a capacity of 7,600 mAh, which should be enough for up to 16 hours of Internet use and video playback according to the manufacturer. It can also be removed and replaced.

Speakers with Dolby Atmos, two microphones and two cameras are also offered. The rear-facing camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels (f/1.9) and an autofocus, while the front-facing camera has 8 megapixels (f/2.0). Android 12 is used as the operating system.

Developed for business

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro was also developed for business use in the field. Thus, the device keys can be programmed for use in companies, for example, to quickly launch important or frequently used apps with one keystroke.

The touch sensitivity of the display can also be adjusted for use with gloves, so that employees can operate the device at any time. The possible unlocking of the device via facial recognition provides additional data security.

The speakers are supposed to be particularly loud so that they are clearly audible even in noisy construction site or hospital environments, for example. The Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro is also compatible with a range of accessories from Samsung and third-party suppliers. From ergonomically designed cases with straps or stands to charging stations, clip-on keyboard covers and portable barcode scanners.

For stationary tasks, the Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro can be easily connected to an external display via Samsung DeX or used in standalone mode to emulate a desktop interface on the tablet.

Price and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro is expected to be available in Germany in WiFi and 5G models from mid-September 2022. The S Pen and the Protective Cover are already included with the tablets. The manufacturer has not yet mentioned pricing details, but the official product website provides some additional details.
