Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked event

A new member of the Z Flip series was presented at the Galaxy Unpacked event. The little brother of the Galaxy Z Fold4 with the name Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 received some innovations, especially on the back.

New features

Among these innovations is the small cover screen, which can be used for selfies with the main cameras on the one hand, and as a central hub from which smart home devices can be controlled, for example. In addition, there is the new FlexCam mode, which is activated when the Galaxy Z Flip4 is partially closed. If you hold the Z Flip4 like a camcorder, you can take selfies and videos hands-free. Thanks to a cooperation between Samsung and Meta, many social media apps like WhatsApp or Instagram are already compatible with the new FlexCam mode. To make the software harmonize even better with the foldable display, the Galaxy Z Flip4 comes with Android 12L, which has been adapted for foldables.

Design and workmanship

The exterior of the phone has also been redesigned. The hinge is now thinner, just like on the Galaxy Z Fold4. Besides that, you can now find frosted glass on the back and a glossy “armor aluminum” frame. Overall, the Galaxy Z Flip4 weighs 187 grams. The Galaxy Z Flip4 is IPX8 dirt and water resistant.

The foldable display of the Galaxy Z Flip4 is an AMOLED display with a variable refresh rate of 1 – 120 Hz, which promises a smooth user experience. The resolution of the folding display is 2640 x 1080 pixels. The small cover display on the back has a resolution of 260 x 512 pixels. This is also an AMOLED display.

Hardware

The hardware of the Flip has also been refreshed, of course. Besides the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, there is now a significantly larger 3700 mAh battery. Fast charging is possible at 25 watts. The Snapdragon has 8 GB of RAM and either 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of internal storage at its disposal – depending on the variant.

Camera

The camera system consists of two 12 megapixel sensors on the back, and their protective glass is slightly thicker than before in the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. The 12 MP wide-angle sensor can feature an increased pixel size of 1.8 µm. A 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera is also found next to it. However, the sensor of this camera only has a pixel size of 1.12 µm. On the front is the selfie camera, this has a resolution of 10 MP with a pixel size of 1.22 µm.

Availability

As of now, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is available for pre-order in the colors “Bora Purple”, “Graphite”, “Pink Gold”, “Blue”, as well as in the customizable “Bespoke” edition. It will be available from August 26. Thereby, Samsung charges €1099.00 for the 128 GB variant, €1159.00 for the 256 GB variant and a proud €1279.00 for the 512 GB variant.
