Samsung Hearapy App: Galaxy Buds4 Pro to alleviate motion sickness with 100 Hz sound

With the Hearapy app, Samsung has introduced a surprising innovation that targets a widespread problem: Motion sickness. The free Android app works in combination with the Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro and uses a scientifically proven 100 Hz sinus tone to stimulate the balance system in the inner ear. According to Samsung, just 60 seconds is enough to alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness for up to two hours – without any medication or its side effects.

What is motion sickness and how does the Samsung Hearapy app help?

Around a third of all people suffer from kinetosis, better known as motion sickness. The cause lies in a sensory conflict: while the vestibular organ in the inner ear registers movement, the eyes perceive a static image – for example when looking at a smartphone or a book. This contradiction triggers stress reactions that manifest themselves in nausea, dizziness and sweating. Previous countermeasures such as medication or acupressure are not without their limitations.

The Hearapy app takes a completely different approach. It plays a precise bass tone with a frequency of exactly 100 Hz via the Galaxy smartphone. An integrated timer limits the application to 60 seconds, while the volume is automatically set to around 85 dB. The sound is intended to specifically stimulate the balance system so that the brain can process movements better.

Scientific basis: Research by Nagoya University

The development is based on research results from Nagoya University in Japan. Scientists there investigated which frequency stimulates the vestibular system most effectively. The result: a sinus tone at exactly 100 Hz and a volume of 80 to 85 dB can measurably improve balance performance. In practical tests, test subjects reported significantly less stress and fewer complaints during a car journey. The effect lasted for up to two hours.

According to the researchers, it is crucial that the sound reaches both ears at least one minute before the start of the journey and that no music or other noises overlay the sine tone. This is exactly where the Galaxy Buds4 Pro come into play.

Why Samsung recommends the Galaxy Buds4 Pro

Samsung explicitly advertises the Hearapy app in conjunction with the Galaxy Buds4 Pro – and also provides the technical arguments for doing so. The latest generation of headphones has several features that are crucial for accurate 100 Hz playback:

Feature Feature Details
Mid-woofer area Almost 20 % larger than its predecessor
Loudspeaker Improved 2-way system with dual amplifier
Audio codec Samsung Seamless Codec UHQ (24 bit / 96 kHz)
Noise canceling Adaptive ANC with 6 microphones
Adaptive EQ Adapts playback to ear shape and environment

The enlarged vibrating surface ensures that the bass sound is reproduced cleanly and powerfully. The Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) with six microphones eliminates ambient noise such as engine noise or conversations so that the sine tone can work undisturbed. In addition, the Adaptive Equalizer analyzes the wearing position and ear shape in real time and dynamically adjusts the playback.

Hearapy also works with other headphones

Interesting: Although Samsung clearly markets the app with the Galaxy Buds4 Pro, it apparently also works with other headphones. Initial tests by various tech media show that the app basically works with any headphones that can reproduce the 100 Hz frequency cleanly. However, it remains unclear whether the effect is as effective with other earbuds as it is with the specially tuned Galaxy Buds4 Pro.

The Hearapy app is available free of charge in the Google Play Store and is limited to Android devices.

Conclusion: Clever solution for an everyday problem

With the Samsung Hearapy app, the manufacturer shows that headphones can do more than just play music. The idea of packing scientific findings on stimulating the sense of balance into a simple, free app is quite clever. Anyone who frequently suffers from motion sickness should definitely give the app a try – in the best case scenario, it will make your next flight or car journey much more pleasant. Whether the Galaxy Buds4 Pro offer a real advantage over other high-quality in-ear headphones remains to be seen in practice.

Anyone interested in Samsung’s Galaxy Buds series can find the Galaxy Buds4 Pro in stores now. The Samsung Galaxy S26 series, which works perfectly with the Buds, is also already available.
