Just in time for CES 2022, Samsung has unveiled an exciting new gaming monitor. The Odyssey Neo G8 offers 4K (Ultra HD) resolution with a 240 Hz refresh rate. The curved monitor also relies on a particularly bright mini-LED backlight panel.
Samsung Odyssey Neo G8: The hottest gaming monitor?
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 relies on a classic 16:9 aspect ratio and comes with a resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 pixels (4K).The curved display measures 32 inches and offers a frame rate of ultra-fast 240 Hz.
Thanks to the mini-LED backlight with numerous separately adjustable light zones, a maximum brightness of 2,000 cd/m² is achieved. The static contrast ratio is one million to one. Thanks to Quantum HDR 2000, HDR content is thus displayed with particularly high contrast, although the maximum official VESA HDR certification ends at DisplayHDR 1400.
A gray-to-grey response time of just one millisecond rounds off the gaming monitor expertly. With a 1-meter radius curvature, the Odyssey Neo G8, combined with the 4K resolution and high frame rate, sets an entirely new combination of specifications.
Odyssey Neo G8 is ready for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5
Thanks to two real HDMI 2.1 ports, the Odyssey Neo G8 is also ready for the current PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Thus, it is able to display content in 4K at 120 FPS, as well as variable frame rate (Variable Referesh Rate) on the consoles as well. A DisplayPort 1.4 port is also available.
However, extremely powerful hardware is required to display content at 4K with 240 Hz on the PC. Additional immersion is provided by the ring of RGB LEDs, which is positioned on the white back of the monitor at the level of the stand. Its illumination automatically adapts to the colors on the screen and thus to the gaming action.
Samsung High Resolution Monitor S8 and Smart Monitor
They also unveiled two other displays, the High Resolution Monitor S8 and the Samsung Smart Monitor M8. The S8 (model: S80PB) relies on 4K resolution and comes in 27-inch and 32-inch sizes.
The DCI-P3 color space is supposed to be covered by 98 percent. The DisplayHDR 600 certification also promises a luminosity of at least 600 cd/m² and thus a strong display of HDR content.
Furthermore, the S8 relies on a “Glare Free” display that has been certified by the Underwriter Laboratories (UL). The matte coating is supposed to significantly reduce reflections even when no hood is used as an anti-glare shield.
The new Samsung Smart Monitor M8 (M80B) is also very slim. It offers the same features as a Smart TV, except that it doesn’t have a TV tuner. Instead, it is extremely slim with only 11.4 mm. The UHD monitor offers a 99 percent sRGB color space reproduction and a brightness of 400 cd/m². Other features include a movable webcam with magnetic mount and USB-C with 65 watts.
Prices and Availability
Samsung’s three new monitors, Odyssey Neo G8, High Resolution Monitor S8 and Smart Monitor M8, will be officially unveiled at CES 2022 first. Samsung has not yet announced when the displays will be released and how high the recommended retail price will be.
