Samsung presents Galaxy A14 5G

Samsung presented the successor of the popular Galaxy A13 with the Galaxy A14 5G. The new model is also an affordable entry-level smartphone that is nevertheless supposed to be powerful. Compared with the A13, it is bigger and equipped with a stronger processor.

Case and display

The first striking thing about the Galaxy A14 5G is its dimensions. With dimensions of 167.7 x 78.0 x 9.1 millimeters, it is enormous. Especially the width of 78 millimeters clearly distinguishes it from most other smartphones from Samsung. For comparison, the A13 measures 165.1 x 76.4 x 8.8 millimeters. The display of the new device measures 16.6 inches diagonally and resolves in Full HD+ (2408 x 1080 pixels). Compared with the predecessor, the resolution is thus unchanged; the display size does not differ either. However, there is a difference in terms of the refresh rate: It is now 90 Hz and thus above the old value of 60 Hz.

Camera and battery

Furthermore, the new Galaxy A14 5G is equipped with a triple camera on the back. The three lenses are visibly placed underneath each other and protrude slightly. The main lens (f/1.8), which has a resolution of 50 megapixels, will probably be used primarily in practice. The other two lenses are an auxiliary lens for depth information and a macro lens (f/2.4). Both have a resolution of two megapixels. In addition, there is the front camera (f/2.0), which is embedded in the display and has a resolution of 13 megapixels.

The front camera, unlike the battery, is thus stronger than its counterpart in the predecessor. The battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. Samsung does not specify a battery runtime. However, based on the experience with similar devices, it can be assumed that the runtime should be more than ten hours.

Processor and other features

The new Galaxy A14 5G is powered by the octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor, which is equipped with two particularly powerful ARM Cortex A76 cores with a clock rate of up to 2.2 GHz, as well as six less powerful A55 cores with a clock rate of up to two GHz. In addition, the chip has a 5G modem; the latest mobile standard is therefore supported. Depending on the configuration, the processor is supported by four or six GB of RAM. In addition, there is an internal storage of 64 or 128 GB, which can be expanded up to one TB via microSD card.

The smartphone is shipped with the Android 13 operating system, which has been enhanced with Samsung’s One UI 5.0 interface. Samsung promises to enable at least two major updates. Other features include WLAN a/b/g/n/ac on the 2.4 and 5 gigahertz bands, Bluetooth 5.2 and a fingerprint sensor.

Galaxy A14 5G: Prices and availability

The device is only available in the US so far. There, it will be offered in two trim levels in black, silver, burgundy and light green color versions. The starting price there is around 200 US dollars. It will soon be available in other countries as well.
