Samsung presents the NVMe 9100 PRO: New standards for high-end SSDs

Samsung has unveiled its first consumer SSD with PCIe 5.0, the NVMe 9100 PRO, which will be available from March 18, 2025. This new top-of-the-range model sets new standards in terms of speed and efficiency and is aimed at users who require the highest performance and large storage capacities.

Key features of the Samsung NVMe 9100 PRO:

  • Sequential read speed: Up to 14,800 MB/s
  • Sequential write speed: Up to 13,400 MB/s
  • Random read performance: Up to 2,200K IOPS
  • Random write performance: Up to 2,600K IOPS
  • Available capacities: 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB (8 TB models to follow later this year)
  • Availability: From March 18, 2025

Increased performance through advanced technology

The impressive performance of the 9100 PRO is achieved through the combination of PCIe 5.0, 8th generation V-NAND and intelligent TurboWrite 2.0 technology. These technologies make it possible to handle high-resolution 4K video editing, complex data analysis and demanding gaming with ease. In particular, the fast loading of high-resolution textures and complex 3D models ensures a smooth and immersive gaming experience.

In addition, the 9100 PRO opens up new possibilities in the field of artificial intelligence. Thanks to its high data processing rate, large data sets can be processed efficiently, which is crucial for local AI applications. Users can therefore run their own language models or text-to-image generators directly on their computer without having to rely on cloud services.

Efficient thermal management for constant performance

To ensure consistent performance without thermal throttling, the 9100 PRO has a nickel-coated controller and a heat spreader on the rear. Dynamic Thermal Guard technology is also used to ensure effective temperature management. For users who want even better heat dissipation, Samsung also offers models with an integrated heatsink. The height of these variants is 8.88 mm and complies with the PCI-SIG D8 standard, allowing them to fit into a wide range of devices. The 8 TB version is slightly higher at 11.25 mm and is suitable for laptops, PCs and consoles.

Improved energy efficiency

Despite the increased performance, Samsung attaches great importance to energy efficiency. Thanks to the specially developed Presto controller, the 9100 PRO consumes just 2.5 W more than its predecessor, the 990 PRO, but offers almost twice the speed. This leads to a reduction in energy consumption per unit of power of up to 49%, which is particularly advantageous for users of notebooks and mobile devices, as longer battery life is made possible.

Price and availability

The Samsung NVMe SSD 9100 PRO will be available from March 18, 2025 in 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB capacities. The 8 TB version will follow later in the year. The recommended retail prices are €182.99 for the 1 TB version, €273.99 for 2 TB and €501.99 for 4 TB. The models with a heatsink are each around 18 euros more expensive.

With the NVMe 9100 PRO, Samsung is setting new standards in the field of high-end SSDs and offers both professionals and gamers a powerful and efficient storage solution.
