Samsung Tizen OS: Licensee found for Europe

Smart TVs with Tizen OS are also to be offered by other manufacturers in Europe. Samsung has now found a licensee for this. Germany, however, is currently still left out.

License clears the way for Tizen smart TVs in Europe

So far, the Tizen smart TV operating system has only been used in Samsung models. However, that is set to change soon, as the Australian site Channel News reports. According to the report, the Koreans have found a licensee in their search.

According to the report, the Australian Sydney-based provider Tempo has secured the global licenses to Tizen OS. The first officially licensed smart TVs with Tizen are to be offered in Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, as well as in European markets in France, Italy and Spain.

However, Germany is currently still left out. Here, the Tizen operating system will be exclusively available in Samsung smart TVs, at least for the time being. After all, they also offer Xbox Cloud Gaming in the 2022 model series.

Sale via Aldi

The first smart TVs with Tizen outside the Samsung cosmos come from manufacturer Bauhn. They are initially to be offered for sale via discounter Aldi in various. At Aldi in Australia, for example, a Bauhn 65-inch smart TV with 4K UHD resolution and Tizen OS is already listed for 699 Australian dollars (equivalent to about 460 euros).

However, other devices from other manufacturers as well as other screen diagonals from Bauhn are still to follow. In the past 18 months, Tempo has secured the rights to some well-known global brands. Among them are Pantone, Monster, Hoover and Sharp.

Competitors of Tizen, such as Google’s AndroidTV or Amazon’s FireTV are already used by licensees. In May 2022, for example, Xiaomi introduced the F2 series with Fire TV integration, while Google also offers its operating system in streaming devices or beamers.

It is still unclear if and when smart TV devices with Tizen that do not come from Samsung will also be available in this country. Samsung introduced Tizen as a new OS for its smart TV models in 2015 and has consistently developed it further since then.
