With the Samsung ViewFinity S8UP, the Koreans have introduced an exciting new high-resolution monitor that is primarily aimed at the creative industry and image or video editors It comes in two sizes, offers 4K resolution including DisplayHDR 600 and relies on a novel, glare-free matte display.
The Samsung ViewFinity S8UP in detail
Graphic designers and content creators should get their money’s worth with the new Samsung ViewFinity S8UP. The new IPS monitor is offered with either a 27-inch or 32-inch screen diagonal, which it combines with a 4K resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels on both sizes.
Also on offer is 98 percent DCI-P3 color space coverage, VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification and PANTONE validation. The latter guarantees the authentic display of more than 2,000 colors as well as the newly added 110 skin tones. Typically, the brightness is 350 cd/m², the contrast ratio is 1,000:1 and the response time is 5 ms (GtG). Samsung puts the maximum refresh rate at 60 hertz.
The Samsung ViewFinity S8UP is the world’s first UL-certified monitor with a matte and glare-free display surface. This effectively reduces reflections and glare. Meanwhile, the high viewing angle ensures comfortable working from any perspective.
Samsung proportionally uses a newly developed recycled plastic material obtained from marine plastic waste in the production of the ViewFinity series. Through various initiatives, Samsung aims to minimize its environmental footprint.
Many options and settings
The Samsung ViewFinity S8UP can also tilt, rotate or swivel. A pivot function is also offered to move the display to the vertical. The monitor can be adjusted by a maximum of 120 mm in height. VESA wall mounting is also possible thanks to 100 x 100 mm holes.
A 90-watt USB-C port is also offered, which can be used to efficiently charge external devices, and an Ethernet LAN port. In addition, there is one DisplayPort 1.4, one HDMI (HDCP 2.2), one 3.5 mm jack, and one USB port with three USB 3.0 ports.
The “Intelligent Eye Care” certificate of the Samsung S8UP includes the TÜV Rheinland-tested “Eye Saver Mode”, the Flicker Free technology and the Adaptive Picture function. A sensor detects the ambient light, while a processor processes the information.
It then automatically adjusts the brightness and color temperature of the display to four different light situations depending on the image being displayed – from dark to normal to bright to very bright. In this way, a better image display is supposed to be made possible without the need for manual adjustments of the display to the ambient light.
