SanDisk introduces the next generation of its portable SSD portfolio in response to increasing data volumes, high-resolution media formats and AI-generated content. The new product line comprises three performance levels – from the compact everyday solution to the high-end SSD for professional productions. The focus is on significantly higher transfer rates, improved robustness and optimized mobility for demanding workflows.
- Up to 4,000 MB/s read speed with the Extreme PRO model
- Almost double the performance of the new Extreme Portable SSD
- IP65 protection and up to three meters drop protection on Extreme models
- Optimized for large files, 12K video and AI-generated content
Sandisk Portable SSD portfolio: More performance for AI content and high-resolution workflows
The new Sandisk Portable SSD portfolio is clearly designed for modern data requirements. As photo and video resolutions and AI-powered content workflows increase, so do the demands on external storage solutions. Large RAW files, 8K or even 12K video formats and extensive project archives require fast and reliable data carriers.
The most powerful variant, the SANDISK Extreme PRO Portable SSD, achieves read speeds of up to 4,000 MB/s. According to the manufacturer, this means that up to ten minutes of 12K video can be transferred in under a minute. The SSD is primarily designed for professional photographers, filmmakers and designers who work with data-intensive multi-stream workflows.
Among these, the SANDISK Extreme Portable SSD is positioned with up to 2,000 MB/s read speed – almost twice as fast as its predecessor. The model is aimed at ambitious creatives and content creators who regularly move large amounts of data between camera, laptop and workstation. The transfer of up to 1,000 high-resolution photos in under 60 seconds illustrates its performance in everyday use.
The SANDISK Portable SSD with a read speed of up to 1,000 MB/s serves as an entry-level solution. It is suitable for backups, media archives and everyday data protection – for example for students, office applications or private photo and video collections.
Robust design, encryption and long-term availability
In addition to performance, SanDisk attaches great importance to mobility and robustness. The standard portable SSD is designed to withstand drops of up to two meters. The Extreme and Extreme PRO models are designed for drops of up to three meters and also have IP65 certification, which offers protection against dust and splash water.
Particularly relevant for professional users is the integrated password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption on the Extreme models. This allows sensitive project data to be protected even when on the move. The portfolio is complemented by multi-year warranty periods: five years for Extreme and Extreme PRO, three years for the standard model.
The SANDISK Extreme Portable SSD is now available worldwide, with a starting price of 259.99 US dollars (MSRP) for the 1TB version. Additional capacities of 2TB and 4TB are available. The Extreme PRO Portable SSD (2TB-4TB, 8TB planned) and the Standard Portable SSD (500GB-2TB) will follow in the second half of 2026.
Conclusion
With the new Sandisk Portable SSD portfolio, the manufacturer is consistently addressing the increasing requirements of modern data and AI workflows. Higher transfer rates, a robust design and integrated encryption make the new generation a future-proof storage solution for creative and professional applications. While the Extreme version is already available, further models will follow in the course of 2026.
