With the SanDisk PRO-G40 SSD, WesternDigital has introduced its new top SSD model. It reaches up to 2,700 MB/s in read and 1,900 MB/s in write and also connects via Thunderbolt 3.
The SanDisk PRO-G40 SSD in detail
The new SanDisk PRO-G40 SSD from Western Digital marks the new top model in the manufacturer’s Professional series. Offered with a capacity of 1 TB or 2 TB, the SSD achieves speeds of up to 2,700 MB/s read and 1,900 MB/s write.
At the same time, it is the manufacturer’s most robust model so far. The case is protected against water and dust according to IP68 and should even survive drops from a height of three meters without any problems. The cooling aluminum body is supposed to maintain its working speed even in the most demanding scenarios and workflows.
The SSD connects via Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 interfaces, which should allow for better collaboration across systems. You’ll only get maximum speed via Thunderbolt 3, though.
Maximum speed via Thunderbolt
Via USB 3.2 Gen 2, a maximum of 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write is possible. Interestingly, initial tests, such as those from DPReview, show that the SanDisk PRO-G40 SSD can exceed the stated speeds, however.
The PRO-G40 SSD’s extreme speed and tremendously flexible usability make it ideal for real-time 4K/8K video editing straight from the drive, smooth AR/VR renderings, and fast transfers of daily workloads.
Just in May, SanDisk had introduced the exciting SanDisk Professional Pro-Blade. A modular removable SSD drive that can be populated with fast NVMe SSDs.
