Schenker CORE 14 and XMG CORE 14 – compact multi-talents

Now there is an addition to the CORE laptops, for the first time in the form of a 14-inch laptop. The XMG CORE 14 brings a lot with it.

That’s what it looks like on the inside

Schenker presents the XMG CORE 14 as a “versatile all-rounder”. It is the lightest and smallest laptop of the brand so far and also appears as SCHENKER MEDIA 14. Overall, the CORE 14 belongs to the medium performance class. The Intel Tiger Lake processor ensures solid performance. Here you can choose between two different CPU options, Intel’s Core i5-1135G7 and the Core i7-1165G7, which work with a TDP of 28 watts. Thus the CORE 14 brings a decent application and also gaming performance. For the graphics card for the CORE 14, the Leipzig-based company opted for the NVIDIA GeForce 1650 Max-P Refresh. This card drives with a TGP of 50 watts. Even though it is a mid-range GPU, it delivers up to ten percent more performance than the Max-Q variant, depending on the game.

IPS display and the interface equipment

The XMG CORE 14 has a viewing angle stable IPS display with FullHD resolution on board. The refresh rate is 120 Hz with a high contrast of over 1000:1 and approx. 300 cd/m² brightness. Together with the built-in graphics card, titles are reproduced much more smoothly than on a 60 Hz display. NVIDIA Optimus uses Intel’s efficient Xe graphics unit for less demanding scenarios. Features with interfaces are good, as you would expect from XMG. The CORE 14 comes with Thunderbolt 4 Power Delivery and DisplayPort function, an HDMI 2.0 slot, Gigabit Ethernet, USB-C 3.2 Gen2 and two USB-A 3.2 Gen1, a full-size SD card reader and a 2in1 audio connection. The WiFi 6 module of the CORE 14 ensures fast and wireless network traffic.

Battery – two charging options

The power delivery function of the Thunderbolt 4 connector allows you to choose between two charging options. Either via the included power supply or via an optional USB-C power dispenser. Thanks to the energy-efficient components of the XMG CORE 14, the laptop can be charged with USB-C even at full load, using a 90 Watt universal power supply. When surfing and also when playing videos, the 49-Wh battery has a running time of almost seven hours. The NVIDIA Optimus supports a battery-saving operation of the laptop even when an additional monitor is connected.

What does it look like on the outside?

The midnight blue XMG CORE 14 weighs just 1.5 kg and measures 324.9 x 225 x 17.6 mm, making it the lightest XMG laptop ever. The back of the display is made of sandblasted aluminum, while the plastic base unit makes the laptop absolutely robust. The keyboard of the CORE 14 is illuminated with white LEDs and has a touchpad without play on the sides of the keys. Of course, the webcam should not be missing, here the CORE 14 has a Windows-Hello-compatible HD webcam mounted on the upper display frame.

SCHENKER MEDIA 14 for professionals

Features for the SCHENKER brand, apart from the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, also include the option of dispensing with a dedicated graphics card. The user then relies on Intel’s efficient Xe-G7 graphics unit. This reduces the weight even further to 1.4 kg. Apart from that, both versions are equally equipped. Only the warranty of the two devices still differs, the XMG CORE 14 has 2 years and the SCHENKER CORE 14 3 years warranty.

Availability and prices

Both versions of the CORE 14 are available immediately. They are starting at 925.08 Euro for the XMG CORE 14 and for the SCHENKER MEDIA 14 at 876.34 Euro. The prices are for the basic equipment with the i5-1135G7, 8 GB RAM and 250 GB SSD.
