Schenker Work 15 and DRT 17 – Laptops for the professional work environment

The new Schenker laptops in the E21 generation could not be more different. The Work 15 comes up with a light aluminum case and the Work DTR 17 focuses on pure performance.

Schenker Work 15

Schenker’s Work 15 is an all-rounder for the office. The manufacturer has placed particular emphasis on robustness and continuous use here. An Intel Tiger-Lake mobile processor with an integrated Xe graphics unit works inside. There is a choice between a Core i7-1165G7 or an i5-1125G7 with four cores and eight threads. The two processors are particularly characterized by a very good performance. The Work 15 has a Thunderbolt 4 port with an 8K-capable DisplayPort stream. Furthermore, it has a slot for M.2 SSDs connected via PCI Express 4.0 and a second M.2 slot that works via PCI Express 3.0. This also makes a RAID 0 or RAID 1 network with two drives feasible. Schenker’s offer is rounded off with two SO-DIMM sockets for up to 64 GB.

The IPS panel of the Work 15 is slim and has stable viewing angles, Full HD resolution and covers 90% of the sRGB color space. Typical for IPS are the good display properties of intense colors, deep black levels and a high-contrast display. Because it is an ultra-narrow bezel display, it also has a very narrow bezel at the bottom edge. With the integrated HD webcam on the top of the laptop, an advantageous shooting angle is made possible to achieve a good display in every conference.

Aside from the Thunderbolt 4 port, the Work 15 has a USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port, two USB-A ports, HDMI 1.4b, a 2in1 audio port, and a microSD card reader. The Schenker Work 15 can communicate via Wi-Fi 6 module or Gigabit Ethernet.

Overall, the Schenker Work 15 measures 257 x 220.5 x 19.9 mm and weighs 1.7 kg. The battery is 73 Wh and thus offers good mobile properties. The case of the laptop is particularly robust, thanks to a torsion-resistant display lid and an aluminum underside. All in all, the laptop is kept simple and is characterized by a certain elegance. The keyboard’s backlight is neutral white. A Microsoft Precision compliant touchpad serves as a mouse replacement. On top of all that, the Work 15’s webcam is Windows-Hello compatible and has a hardware TPM 2.0 module for professional users.

Schenker DTR 17

With the Schenker DTR 17, Schenker offers a 17.3-inch laptop as an uncompromising desktop replacement workstation. The DTR 17 is designed for pure performance and is especially suitable for computationally intensive applications. It is based on Intel’s Socket 1200 platform, uses the latest Rocket Lake CPUs and a motherboard with a Z590 chipset. The portable workstation can thus integrate a maximum of a Core i9-11900K or also be equipped with a Core i5-11400 or an i9-10900K. The DTR 17 laptop works with the full TDP of 125 watts, even when using desktop processors. Schenker uses special MXM plug-in card versions from Nvidia for the graphics card in the DTR 17. Here, among others, the Nvidia RTX 3060, 3070 or 3080 laptop GPU. The Nvidia RTX 3080 has 16 GB GDDR6 memory and works exclusively with Dynamic Boost 2.0 and an increased TGP of 165 watts, as well as 16 PCI Express 4.0 lanes. Thanks to the cooling system with Vapor-Chamber for graphics card cooling, anti-dust tunnels for the discharge of penetrating dust and an automatic fan return function that regularly cleans the cooling fins from dirt particles, the DTR 17 has a very good system to enable permanent top performance of the processor and the graphics card.

The Ultra HD IPS display of the DTR 17 brings color-faithful image reproduction and reaches a maximum brightness of 400 cd/m2 with 100 percent coverage of the extended Adobe RGB color space. A Full HD IPS panel with 300 Hz technology and 100 percent sRGB color space coverage is also available.

In terms of memory, up to 128 GB of DDR4 in four SO-DIMM sockets and four SSDs in M.2 slots can be occupied according to preference. Heat sinks are available for the SSDs ex-works. In combination with the 11th generation Rocket Lake processors, the primary M.2 slot already communicates via PCI Express 4.0. The remaining three fall back on PCI Express 3.0 and support RAID levels 0, 1 and 5.

On the connectivity side, the DTR 17 has two Thunderbolt 4 ports with DisplayPort functionality, which also function as HDMI 2.1 ports. In addition, there are two G-SYNC-compatible Mini DisplayPorts 1.4, USB-C 3.2 Gen2, two USB-A 3.2 Gen2 ports, a full-sized UHS-III SD card reader and separate audio ports for microphone and headphones, which are headset-compatible. Furthermore, up to three external monitors can be used with the laptop. Wireless communication is possible via Wi-Fi 6 or the 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port.

Due to all the performance that the Schenker DTR 17 brings along, it naturally comes together with a certain size and also weight, which is why it is above average with 4.6 kg and a dimension of 399 x 319 x 43.5 mm.

Prices

In the standard configuration, the Schenker Work 15 can be purchased for as little as 949 euros. In contrast, the Schenker DTR 17 starts at a price of 2,550 Euros, in the smallest configuration with a Core i5, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 and 8 GB DDR4-3200 Crucial. The manufacturer’s warranty is three years.
