With the Scope Atmoz of the company Scope Cycling it is possible to adjust the air pressure of a bicycle tire while riding again and again and thus adapt it to the requirements of different terrain.
Tire pressure adjustment by remote control
The pressure change system weighs about 300 grams and is attached directly to the axle of the tire. It is controlled via a remote control that can be attached to the handlebars of the bike. This makes it possible to adjust the pressure conveniently while riding. The pressure adjustment device is suitable for both front and rear tires. However, the prerequisite is that the tire is tubeless and either 28 or 29 inches in size.
The control unit, which is mounted on the handlebar, is kept relatively simple. It basically consists of two buttons, via which the pressure can be increased or decreased. Pressure changes are only possible at a certain speed, which is also due to the limits of the load capacity of the tire material: the pressure can be increased or decreased by a maximum of 0.5 bar per second. Communication between the control unit and the pressure adjustment unit takes place via Bluetooth.
Technically, the tire pressure is regulated via a special valve to which the adjustment unit is connected. Air hoses, which are fixed to the spokes, lead from it to the aforementioned valve – and can thus supply additional air to the tire or withdraw air from it. It should be noted here that the device is battery-powered and thus needs to be recharged regularly. The charging is done via micro USB port.
Intended for professional sports
However, the Scope Atmoz is not intended for everyday use. With a price of 3,998 euros, it is anything but affordable and is likely to be rather uninteresting for the broad mass of cyclists. In professional sports, on the other hand, the device could find appeal, as it offers a simple and practical way of adapting the sports equipment to changing terrain – and could thus create competitive advantages.
