Compared to their predecessor (our test), the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless feature targeted improvements in active noise suppression, a more repair-friendly design and, for the first time, a replaceable battery. This is the audio specialist’s response to the growing demand for more durable electronics and combines modern technology with greater sustainability. With the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless, the manufacturer remains true to its familiar design language, but makes specific adjustments. At first glance, the discreetly revised metal accents on the ear cups and the modernized branding on the fabric headband are striking. However, the decisive progress is on the inside.
The now replaceable battery is particularly relevant. While many premium headphones rely on permanently installed energy storage units, Sennheiser is taking an unusual but sensible step. This significantly increases the service life of the product and makes it much easier to repair. Especially in the premium segment, where devices are often used for several years, this is a strong signal.
Technically, Sennheiser has retained the tried-and-tested 42 mm drivers, but has significantly optimized the noise suppression. Instead of four microphones, eight microphones are now used. According to the manufacturer, Active Noise Cancelling in the mid-frequency range should work up to three times more effectively than with the Momentum 4.
This specification seems plausible, as additional microphones enable more precise detection of ambient noise. This not only benefits the active noise suppression, but also the voice quality during phone calls or video conferences. The system is supplemented by a transparency mode that allows external noise to pass through, making it easier to use in traffic or in the office.
The battery life also remains at a very high level. At up to 57 hours, it is only slightly less than its predecessor, but remains at the top of the premium market.

In addition to improved ANC, the Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless offer numerous state-of-the-art audio features. They support aptX Lossless, Snapdragon Sound and spatial audio with Dolby Atmos and head tracking. This combination is clearly aimed at demanding music fans and users who prefer high-resolution audio formats.
Bluetooth 5.4 is used as the wireless standard. A later firmware update for Bluetooth 6.0 and LE Audio has already been announced. This is technically understandable, as many manufacturers initially deliver new standards via software as soon as certification has been completed.
For operation, Sennheiser combines classic physical buttons with touch controls on the right ear cup. The headphones can also be used flexibly: music can be played wirelessly, via USB-C audio or in the traditional way via the 3.5 mm jack socket.
Another practical detail is the new hard-shell case. As the headphones can be folded up, it is more compact than many competitor models and still offers space for cables and accessories.
At 399.90 euros, the model is positioned in the upper premium segment and competes directly against Sony’s WH-1000XM series and Bose flagships.
