Sharp Aquos Zero 6: New mid-range smartphone with 240 Hz display officially unveiled

Sharp has introduced a new smartphone in Japan. The mid-range Aquos Zero 6 is primarily aimed at gamers and features a 240 Hz display. It supports 5G and weighs just 146 grams.

Fast display

The 240 Hz display of the Sharp Aquos Zero 6 is undoubtedly the smartphone’s flagship. The manufacturer installs an OLED panel with a diagonal of 6.4 inches and a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. As in the Sharp Aquos Zero 2, the 240 Hz are not realized natively: 120 frames per second can be displayed, while 120 black frames per second are also displayed, which should result in a smoother presentation of movements in practice.

Despite the quite large display, the Aquos Zero 6 only comes to a thickness of around 7.9 mm and weighs just 146 grams. The 5G mobile standard is supported, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G 8-core CPU is used as the SoC, which is composed of two cores with a 2.2 GHz clock rate and six 1.8 GHz cores. 8GB of RAM and 128GB of system storage are on offer, although the latter cannot be expanded.

The battery offers a capacity of 4,010 mAh, but the manufacturer does not provide any information about the charging options or speed. In return, the smartphone is water-resistant according to IPX5 / IPX8 / IP6X, has NFC, Bluetooth 5.1 and offers face recognition, as well as a fingerprint sensor.

The cameras

The selfie camera of the Sharp Aquos Zero 6 sits in a small, centrally placed notch and offers a resolution of 12.6 megapixels with an f/2.3 aperture. On the back, we rely on a triple-camera setup that is made up of the following components:

  • Main camera: 48 megapixels, f/1.8 with electronic image stabilization
  • Wide angle camera: 8 megapixels, f/2.4 with electronic image stabilization, 120 degree angle
  • Telecamera: 8 megapixel, f/2.4 4 with electronic image stabilization, focal length of 53 mm

Price and availability

The Sharp Aquos Zero 6 has so far only been announced for the Japanese market, and the manufacturer has not yet revealed a price. Thereby, the smartphone is supposed to appear in stores in the fall or winter of 2021.
