Shell SR-3B, SR-4B and SR-5B: Three new e-bikes unveiled

Shell is not only known as a petroleum company, but also manufactures e-scooters and e-bikes in North and Central America under the Shell RIDE brand. There they have now introduced the new Shell SR-3B, SR-4B and SR-5B e-bikes, which are equipped with a 250-watt or 500-watt rear-wheel motor.

The Shell SR-3B, SR-4B and SR-5B e-bikes in detail

The Shell SR-3B, which comes with a 250-watt motor powered by the rear wheel, marks the beginning. It also marks the most affordable e-bike from Shell RIDE to date. It features a 36V 7.8 AH battery that can be removed for charging.

This gives the e-bike a maximum range of around 40 kilometers (25 miles). The pedal assist accelerates the SR-3B to a maximum of 25 miles per hour, or just under 40 km/h. In “throttle” mode with a throttle grip (like on a motorcycle), the maximum is 27 km/h.

Technically, the SR-3B stands on 27.5-inch wheels and relies on disc brakes. The SR-3B, like the SR-4B and SR-5B, relies on a predominantly dark gray design with yellow details.

However, the Shell SR-4B and SR-5B differ from each other only in details. For example, the SR-4B offers a low entry, while the SR-5B commands the same price and offers a classic high frame.

On both models, the 48 V battery is recessed into the down tube and can also be removed for charging. It is also said to allow a longer range of up to 80 kilometers. At 500 watts, the e-bike’s motor is also twice as powerful as that of its cheaper sibling.

With pedal assist, both e-bikes reach a maximum of 45 km/h, while in throttle mode they reach a maximum of 32 km/h. Otherwise, there are 27.5-inch fat wheels, disc brakes front and rear, and 8-speed gears from Shimano.

Shell is thus betting on a similar fat bike trend, such as the OKAI Ranger with 1,000 watts or the ET.CYCLE T1000 most recently.

Prices and availability

All three Shell e-bikes will launch soon in the U.S., but the manufacturer has not yet given a specific date. The Shell SR-3B will be offered for $1,199 (about 1,171 euros), while the SR-4B and SR-5B will start at $1,899 (about 1,854 euros) each. Whether and when the e-bikes will also come to Germany is currently still uncertain.
