Those who want to take advantage of an e-bike, but don’t want to dig quite as deep into their pockets or already call a high-quality bike their own, could get their money’s worth with the Skarper Kit. According to the manufacturer, this conversion kit should be able to turn any standard bicycle into an e-bike with just one click.
Skarper Kit converts bike into e-bike
The Skarper Kit presents a particularly simple solution for turning any bike into an e-bike with just one click. This is basically a combined solution of motor and battery unit that can be installed on any bike equipped with disc brakes.
The transformation is done by simply clicking the Skarper DiskDrive to the disc brake of the rear wheel. For this purpose, the manufacturer has developed a special form of disc brake, which not only turns out particularly light, but also contains a complete gearbox.
If a bike is equipped with the kit, but the motor-battery unit is removed, the DiskDrive works like a normal brake disc. However, if you click the kit onto the disc, the bike turns into an e-bike in an instant, while the motor drives the vehicle accordingly via the rear wheel.
The technology behind
The Skarper kit around the DiskDrive system comes up with 50 Nm of torque, while the motor produces 250 watts. Overall, the entire kit brings 3.3 kg on the scale, with the pure DiskDrive brake disc weighs only 300g.
Despite its compact dimensions, the built-in battery turns out quite large with a capacity of 202 Wh and is supposed to allow a range of up to 60 kilometers. A complete charging process takes two and a half hours.
There is apparently a fast charging function: 30 minutes of charging should be enough for a range of 15-20 km. The system allows speeds of up to 32 km/h, or a maximum of 25 km/h according to country-specific restrictions.
With the help of a carrying handle, you can easily take the Skarper with you wherever you go. How much sense it makes to convert a standard bike into an e-bike and to what extent this is detrimental to the material remains to be seen. You can see how the kit works in the following video from the manufacturer.

Price and availability
The Skarper Kit is scheduled to begin shipping in 2023. The manufacturer’s MSRP is 1,000 British pounds upwards, which is the equivalent of just under 1,164.20 euros. That is of course more than, for example, in the current E-MTB -offer from Aldi for a complete e-bike is called. You can find more information directly on the homepage of the manufacturer.
