Skoda introduces location-based offers

The Czech car manufacturer Skoda has announced that it will be activating location-based offers in the on-board computer of its vehicles in the future. These will primarily be discount promotions carried out in cooperation with retail companies.

Location, driving situation and habits

In addition to the location, the vehicle should also include the current driving situation as well as recognized habits in the displayed offer. In concrete terms, this means, for example, that if the fuel level is low, nearby gas stations are displayed along with possible discounts. But the range of location-based services is not to be limited to directly car-related services. Skoda has announced that it will also launch campaigns with supermarkets, hotels and restaurants. In practice, this should mean that locally valid promotions will be displayed directly in the on-board computer in the future.

Andre Wehner from Skoda had the following to say about the scope of the offer: “As the Simply Clever Company for the best mobility solutions, we are also focusing on maximum customer orientation with our new location-based services. Right from the start, we are cooperating with numerous attractive partners in order to offer our customers a wide range of individually tailored, local offers right from the launch, thus guaranteeing the optimum user experience. Via the use of data and the combination with interesting offers, we provide another attractive digital service for our customers.”

Digital networking

The offers are thereby limited to the circle of all those who are on the road in a Skoda. The exclusivity of the offers is ensured by digital networking. This means that offers that appear can be accepted directly on the on-board computer, whereupon not only does route planning start automatically, but an e-mail is also sent containing a QR code that can be used to redeem the discount. In addition to the car, a smartphone with an existing Internet connection is therefore always required to use the service.

The service was launched in the Czech Republic in December 2020 and appears to have been well received there. It can now also be used in Germany. It should work in all newer vehicles, including the Electric SUV Enyaq RS iV.
