Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a new premium mobile platform that combines performance, smart features and advanced technologies. The platform aims to meet the demands of today’s high-end smartphones and offers noticeable improvements in areas such as CPU power, graphics performance, AI capabilities and connectivity. State-of-the-art performance and architecture
At the heart of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is the new Qualcomm Oryon CPU, which is clocked at up to 3.8 GHz and thus achieves a performance increase of 36% compared to its predecessor. The CPU configuration follows the 1+3+4 core setup, whereby the prime core is designed for peak performance in particular. This results in noticeably faster response times and smoother operation, even with demanding applications or multitasking. The system is complemented by the Adreno 840 GPU, which improves graphics performance by 11% and has been specially optimized for gaming and multimedia applications.
The Qualcomm Hexagon Neural Processing Unit (NPU) enables a 46% increase in AI performance, allowing the chip to process complex AI models and multimodal inputs locally on the device. The platform supports Agentic AI, which creates context-based and personalized user experiences, such as intelligent suggestions or hands-free voice activation via Qualcomm Sensing Hub.
Advanced multimedia and connectivity features
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 also includes the Spectra AI ISP, which enables professional video recording with up to 4K at 120 fps and supports HDR audio recording. This opens up new possibilities for video creation and improved image quality for photos even in difficult lighting conditions.
In terms of connectivity, the integrated Snapdragon X80 5G modem RF system is crucial. It supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks with maximum download rates of up to 10 Gbps, guaranteeing top speeds for streaming and downloads. In addition, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and ultra-wideband technologies are integrated via the FastConnect 7900 system, providing a stable and fast connection.
