Solar-powered buses, trucks or vans could soon become a reality thanks to start-up Sono Motos. They will be presenting corresponding solutions at the IAA Transportation 2022 in Hanover from September 19 to 25.
At booth number C02 in Hall 26, the manufacturer’s experts will showcase the Solar Bus Kit, a technology solution that can be used to retrofit diesel buses. Its main purpose is to enable savings in CO2 emissions and fuel, and it was only officially launched at the end of July.
In Hall 27 and on the adjacent outdoor area, Sono Motors, CHEREAU and three new partners will also present various projects involving solar integration.
“In the next few years, the Euro 7 standard will be introduced. Bus and truck fleet operators will also have to respond to this. Our solar solutions save fuel and costs in addition to CO2 emissions and increase range and self-sufficiency,” reveals Laurin Hahn, CEO and co-founder of Sono Motors.
The manufacturer does not go into further detail, but the images suggest that it plans to offer solar solutions for refrigerated trailers, e-buses and e-transporters, among other vehicles, as well as for trucks, and to unveil them at IAA Transportation 2022.
The solar-powered Sion electric car from manufacturer Sono Motors changed contract manufacturers in April 2022, bringing series production within reach for next year. There is also an electric truck from Tesla, whose Semi Truck is still scheduled for delivery in 2022.
