- Silent operation thanks to modern GaN technology and fanless design
Sonos Amp Multi: New dimensions for multi-room audio and smart home installations
The Sonos Amp Multi was developed specifically for environments where classic two-channel amplifiers reach their limits. Open-plan living concepts, combined living and working areas or large-scale smart homes place high demands on flexibility, performance and controllability. This is precisely where Sonos comes in with a system that can manage multiple rooms, zones and speakers centrally and efficiently.

With eight amplified outputs of 125 watts each at 8 ohms, up to 24 Sonos built-in speakers can be operated simultaneously. The outputs can be flexibly assigned to up to four independent zones, allowing individual sound profiles and audio sources per zone. The modular scaling is particularly important for larger installations: several Amp Multi units can be combined without compromising stability or sound quality.
A key advantage lies in the architecture: each output can be freely assigned to each zone. This creates flexible system designs that can be adapted to changing living situations at a later date – without the need for costly rewiring or structural alterations. This freedom makes the Amp Multi a future-proof solution for growing smart home infrastructures.
High-end technology meets professional control and sound optimization
At hardware level, Sonos relies on a modern GaN (Gallium Nitride) power architecture in combination with Class D post-filter feedback (PFFB). This technology ensures a particularly clear, controlled sound, high energy efficiency and low heat generation. The result is a fanless, noiseless system that works reliably and stably even in continuous operation – a decisive factor for living rooms and technical racks.
The hardware is complemented by extensive software tools for professional sound tuning. With ProTune, Sonos is introducing a new manual tuning tool that offers, among other things:
- Parametric 10-band equalizer
- Gain control per output
- Width control and delay offset
- Precise DSP profiles for Sonos built-in speakers
This means that even complex room acoustics, difficult speaker positioning and individual listening zones can be precisely adjusted. At the same time, operation via the Sonos app remains intuitive, meaning that even users without technical expertise can benefit from the professional installation.
The design is also clearly geared towards professional environments: The rack-compatible 1.5U housing with optional 2U rack mount ensures clean cable management, efficient ventilation and space-saving integration into modern technology racks. The well thought-out design makes installation, maintenance and expansion considerably easier.
