With the new 1000X THE COLLEXION, Sony is adding a particularly exclusive model to its well-known 1000X series. The new over-ear headphones combine high-quality design, modern audio technologies and the well-known noise-canceling performance of the series. At the same time, Sony is celebrating the tenth anniversary of the successful 1000X series. In addition to high-quality materials and improved wearing comfort, the manufacturer is focusing on spatial sound, AI-supported audio optimization and particularly detailed reproduction.
- Premium over-ear headphones with luxurious metal and faux leather design

Sony 1000X THE COLLEXION focuses on top-class design and comfort
With the 1000X THE COLLEXION, Sony is taking a much more exclusive approach than with previous models in the 1000X series. Instead of concentrating solely on technical data, this time the focus is on a combination of sound quality, design and comfort. The headband is made of high-quality metal with a sandblasted surface and hand-polished accents. The design is complemented by specially developed artificial leather, which, according to Sony, took around two years to develop.
The design is deliberately minimalist. Integrated metal buttons and unobtrusive microphone openings ensure clear lines without visible interruptions. The headphones are available in platinum white and black. Both versions rely on subtle metallic contrasts and are clearly oriented towards the premium segment.
Wearing comfort has also been extensively optimized. Large ear cups are designed to distribute pressure evenly and at the same time improve passive noise isolation. The wider headband supports longer listening sessions without being uncomfortable. This focus seems particularly plausible in view of the increasing use of high-quality headphones in the home office, for gaming or for mobile entertainment.
Sony is also placing greater emphasis on accessibility and sustainability. Around 25 percent of the plastic used comes from recycled materials, while the packaging is completely plastic-free. The magnetic carrying case and tactile controls are also designed to make it easier to use for people with limited mobility.
1000X THE COLLEXION impresses with AI sound and modern noise canceling
Technically, the 1000X THE COLLEXION is based on the familiar audio platform of the WH-1000XM6 (our test), but expands it with additional sound functions. At its heart is a newly developed driver unit with carbon composite material which, according to Sony, should enable more precise instrument separation and finer high-frequency reproduction. This should have a particularly positive effect on high-resolution music or orchestral soundtracks.
The integration of DSEE Ultimate is particularly interesting. The AI-supported technology analyzes compressed audio files in real time and reconstructs lost sound details. The aim is to achieve playback that is as close as possible to Hi-Res audio. Sony is also expanding the 360 upmix technology with three separate modes for music, movies and games. This is intended to make classic stereo sources appear more spatial and immersive.
For noise cancelling, Sony continues to rely on its established multi-noise sensor technology with twelve microphones and the Adaptive NC Optimizer. This combination dynamically adapts the noise suppression to the environment and is already one of the strongest solutions on the market with the WH-1000XM6.
Sony is also announcing a new color variant of the WH-1000XM6. The model will also be available in “Sandstone”, a warm beige tone that expands the existing color portfolio.
Conclusion
With the 1000X THE COLLEXION, Sony combines elegant design, modern audio technology and the well-known noise-canceling quality of the 1000X series in a particularly high-quality overall package. The focus on comfort, spatial sound and AI-supported audio optimization underlines the premium orientation of the model. The Sony 1000X THE COLLEXION will be available in black and platinum white from May 2026. The recommended retail price is 630 euros. The WH-1000XM6 in Sandstone will be launched at the same time for 449 euros.
