Sony SRS-XV900: Wireless party speaker with LED lighting

With the Sony SRS-XV900, the manufacturer has introduced a new wireless party speaker with enormous power and chic LED lighting. It wants to score with a strong battery and exciting karaoke and DJ functions, but it also has its price.

The Sony SRS-XV900 in detail

According to the manufacturer, the new Sony SRS-XV900 marks the loudest and most powerful wireless speaker from its own portfolio to date. In terms of size, but also performance, it aims to significantly outperform, for example, the XG300, XE300 and XE200 models introduced in June.

The 4-way bass reflex speaker combines a 120-mm-diameter midrange driver with six 50-mm tweeters in the front, 40-mm tweeters on the side, and a 320-mm woofer in the rear for room-filling, omni-directional party sound.

Thanks to rectangular diaphragms, the X-Balances Speaker Unit is said to provide even clearer and deeper bass, even at maximum volume, while ClearAudio+ mode is said to make the soundstage clearer.

The 26.6 kg speaker measures a total of 410 mm x 880 mm x 439 mm (width x height x depth), but it can be moved from A to B quickly and easily thanks to a practical transport handle and wheels.

Wirelessly, the party speaker communicates via Bluetooth 5.2 and is thus said to offer a range of up to 30 meters. In addition to the SBC and AAC codecs, it also supports Sony’s high-resolution LDAC codec, which, for example, the Linkbuds S (our review) can also handle. The displayed frequency band is between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz.

Optionally, however, various audio sources can also be connected via stereo mini-jack, USB-A or optical input, while microphones or guitars may be connected via a 6.3 mm input. This opens up additional karaoke and DJ functions, as both inputs can also be fine-tuned separately in terms of volume.

Up to 25 hours runtime

The Sony SRS-XV900 also has an integrated battery that can play music for up to 25 hours, according to the manufacturer. Thanks to the quick-charge function, 10 minutes on the mains is also enough to make the speaker fit again for 3 hours of music playback. A battery maintenance function is also offered, which is supposed to protect against overcharging.

The speaker can be operated either via the smartphone app or via the touchscreen on the top of the speaker. Here, for example, the modes, settings and lighting can be adjusted.

Thanks to Party Connect, the XV900 can be connected to up to 100 compatible speakers, while music and lighting are synchronized simultaneously. The speaker’s indirect LED lighting also creates a party atmosphere, with colored ambient light emitted in all directions – and even matching the music being played.

Price and availability

The party speaker Sony SRS-XV900 is expected to find its way into retail stores in October 2022 and that in a black color scheme at a recommended retail price of 1,199 euros. You can find more details on the Poduct website from Sony.
