At the heart of the Sony WF-1000XM6 is significantly improved noise canceling, which, according to the manufacturer, reduces ambient noise around 25 percent more effectively than the previous model. The optimization is particularly noticeable in the medium and higher frequency range, which is often perceived as disturbing in everyday life. This is made possible by the new QN3e HD noise-canceling processor, which, in combination with a total of eight microphones, enables more precise control of noise suppression.
The system is complemented by the Integrated Processor V2, which is already familiar from other premium models. With the help of the Adaptive Noise Cancelling Optimizer, the technology continuously analyses ambient noise and the respective wearing situation. Even small leaks between the earphones and the ear canal are taken into account in order to keep noise reduction at a consistently high level. In addition, noise-isolating ear tips in four sizes are included in the scope of delivery, which improve the fit and further support the noise canceling.
The call quality has also been specifically optimized. In addition to feedforward microphones, bone sound sensors and an AI-based beamforming algorithm are used. Two powerful processors enable improved DAC performance and, for the first time in the series, 32-bit signal processing. The newly developed speaker unit combines different materials for the dome tweeter and suspension, which combines deep, controlled bass with clear treble and further reduces distortion. Supported features include Hi-Res Audio Wireless via LDAC, DSEE Extreme, 360 Reality Audio and a freely configurable 10-band equalizer in the Sound Connect app.
The housing of the WF-1000XM6 is around 11 percent slimmer than its predecessor and adapts better to the natural contours of the inner ear. A newly integrated ventilation system also reduces disturbing noise, for example when walking. The charging case has also been redesigned and is now easier to open and operate.
In terms of connectivity, the headphones rely on current standards such as LE audio with particularly low latency, which also makes them interesting for mobile gaming. The battery life is up to eight hours with active noise canceling and up to 24 hours in total including the charging case. Wireless charging via Qi is also possible. Sustainability aspects are incorporated into the overall concept through the use of around 25 percent circular plastics and plastic-free packaging.
