Sony WH-1000XM5: Launch of the over-ear top model is apparently imminent

After several Sony WH-1000XM5 leaks were found on the Internet in the past few days, the manufacturer is now apparently preparing a launch event for the new top model in the over-ear ANC headphone range. We have summarized all the information.

Sony WH-1000XM5 Release on May 12

The Sony WH-1000XM5 is a new high-end headphone awaiting us, and according to a tweet from Sony UK, it will apparently be unveiled on May 12 at 6:00 pm German time. The release event is themed “Your world starts here” and does not specifically reveal that the XM5 will be the focus.

However, the teaser image coincides with the official leaks on the successor to the premium Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones (our review), the design of which apparently somewhat approximates the AirPods Max from Apple. Here already found in recent days some high-resolution render images on the net, which promise a complete redesign a more noble, tidy look.

However, technical details are currently virtually unknown. Allegedly, the Sony WH-1000XM5 are supposed to offer a battery life of up to 40 hours with ANC (active noise cancellation) activated – that would be a real fighting chance.

Sony WH-1000XM5 price: more expensive than the predecessor?

Details about the possible price, on the other hand, are given by the usually well-informed tech analyst Jon Prosser via Twitter. According to his information, the Sony WH-1000XM5 will be offered for $399. Presumably, the Euro price with 399 euros should be adopted once again.

The predecessor, XM4, started in this country for 349.00 euros, but is currently available, for example, at Amazon already, depending on the color, from 279.99 euros. In the same breath, Prosser comments on the price of the new Sony LinkBuds S in-ear headphones, which are scheduled to be announced on May 18 and will be priced at $199. Among other things, the LinkBuds S are supposed to offer a new design and are rumored to be able to automatically switch between ANC and transparency mode.

So it will be busy weeks for Sony. Because already on May 11 they want to present the new flagship smartphone Sony Xperia 1 IV at their own launch event. The unveiling of the Sony WH-1000XM5 will follow one day later.
