The Sony WH-1000XM6 will be available starting in August 2026 in Olive Gray, at the same MSRP of 449 euros. Technically, the new variant is identical to previous models: same QN3 processor, same 30-mm drivers, same battery life. The only new feature is the color—a muted green with a grayish tint that Sony describes as an earth tone.
Key Points at a Glance
- New Olive Gray color variant, available starting in August 2026
- MSRP 449 euros; already significantly cheaper in some stores
- No technical changes compared to Black, Sand Pink, and others
- Sixth color option for Sony’s flagship ANC model
Olive Gray: The green leak was correct
Anyone who’s been following the rumor mill probably isn’t surprised. In early July, a color previously listed only as “G” appeared in import documents—which we’d already reported on: Sony was apparently preparing a green version of the WH-1000XM6. That’s exactly what’s here now, and it’s called Olive Gray.
Sony itself describes it as a “sophisticated earth tone” with a “subtle touch of understated luxury.” Marketing speak, of course. In practical terms, Olive Gray is a subdued gray-green that fits well into the lineup of recently introduced natural tones. Sand Pink and Sandstone were already heading in this direction; Olive Gray is the logical next step. This brings the total number of available colors to six: Black, Platinum Silver, Midnight Blue, Sand Pink, Sandstone, and now Olive Gray.
Sony’s rationale for this color strategy: Buyers are increasingly opting for timeless, minimalist designs. According to the manufacturer, premium products are designed for longevity—both visually and functionally. Whether you buy into that or not, the effect is the same as with any new color: the headphones remain the talk of the town without Sony having to release a new model.
Technical Specifications of the Sony WH-1000XM6
Sony hasn’t changed anything about the hardware. If you choose Olive Gray, you’ll get exactly the same headphones that launched in May 2025. Here’s an overview of the key specs:
| Model | Sony WH-1000XM6 |
|---|---|
| Design | Over-ear, closed-back, foldable |
| Processor | HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3 |
| Microphones | 12, including 6 for phone calls |
| Drivers | 30 mm, carbon fiber composite diaphragm |
| Bluetooth | 5.3, multipoint, LE Audio-ready |
| Codecs | SBC, AAC, LDAC |
| Battery life | Up to 30 hours with ANC, up to 40 hours without |
| Fast charging | 3 minutes for about 1 hour of playback |
| Weight | About 250 grams |
| Colors | Black, Platinum Silver, Midnight Blue, Sand Pink, Sandstone, Olive Gray |
| MSRP | 449 euros |
The QN3 processor and the increased number of microphones—now up to twelve—are the key improvements over the XM5. Added to this is the foldable hinge, which Sony omitted from the previous model and which is a real selling point for frequent travelers. We’ve thoroughly tested how this holds up in everyday use: check out our review of the Sony WH-1000XM6.
Since its launch, Sony has also rolled out firmware updates. At the end of June, version 3.1.5 added support for the Gaming Audio Profile, which noticeably reduces latency while gaming. The Olive Gray model comes with this update pre-installed or can download it via the Sony Headphones Connect app.
Price and Availability
The MSRP of 449 euros is more of a theoretical figure. It remains to be seen whether the Olive Gray model will be discounted from the start. With newly introduced colors, it usually takes a few weeks for their prices to catch up with those of the established models.
The headphones can be ordered through the Sony Store and at specialty retailers. You can find this model on Amazon here, among other places.
Conclusion
Olive Gray is a color update—nothing more, nothing less. If you already own a Sony WH-1000XM6, there’s no reason to switch. If you’re still on the fence and aren’t keen on black, you now have a subtle alternative that doesn’t immediately look like a tech gadget. The price remains particularly interesting: If the flagship model is regularly available for a good 330 euros, the competition in the premium segment will have a hard time keeping up. Incidentally, Sony has already shown how it plans to take this design theme even further with the 1000X THE COLLEXION.
