Manufacturer Sony has unveiled a new mid-range smartphone with its Xperia 10 III, whose technical details are partly more reminiscent of a flagship. The Japanese electronics company equips its latest device with features like a high-quality OLED screen, 5G, protection against water and dust (IP68), and a popular 3.5 mm jack. We take a closer look at the new launch.
5G is slowly becoming the standard
Piece by piece, it is becoming more and more clear: 5G has also arrived in the mid-range and is no longer reserved for the locking tip of the smartphone market. This is not only made clear by manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi and Huawei. Now Sony also equips a mid-range device with fast 5G. However, Sony does not only want to score with the latest mobile standard in the Xperia 10 III. It also offers a few exciting unique selling points that could be a reason for many potential customers to buy it.
First and foremost, Sony’s new smartphone stands out with its comparatively compact form factor. This is likely to be well received on the European market in particular. On the other hand, we know the IP68 certification of the Sony Xperia 10 III from many other mid-range smartphones. However, Sony decides to keep the classic 3.5 mm jack despite the protection against dirt and water. This usually has to give way when the manufacturers want to achieve an IP68 certification. Especially hi-fi enthusiasts will certainly like this.
Ordinary power under a slim case
The Xperia 10 III owes its mobile standard to the Snapdragon 690 5G. We already know this processor manufactured in the 8 nanometer process from the OnePlus Nord N10 5G. The Qualcomm processor is supported by 6 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, Sony offers 128 GB of flash memory in its mid-range smartphone. However, you do not have to be satisfied with this limit. You can easily expand the capacity with a micro-SD card.

The pretty OLED panel offers a screen size of 6 inches and is extremely handy thanks to a footprint of 15.4 cm x 6.8 cm (21:9 format). The fact that the Xperia 10 III is just 8.3 mm thin should also help with a comfortable grip. In combination with High Dynamic Range (HDR), the OLED panel should be able to render high-contrast and, thanks to FullHD+ resolution, sharp screen content. The refresh rate of 60 hertz should also enable scrolling without annoying judder.
Triple camera and a full battery
Of course, a suitable camera should not be missing either. Sony installs a triple camera on the back, which consists of a wide-angle camera (12 MP), ultra-wide-angle camera (8 MP) and a telephoto lens (8 MP). A look at the technical details of the Xperia 10 III makes it clear that this is a direct competitor of the A-series from Samsung.
Since Samsung has always ruled the market with its popular mid-range lineup, the competition for Sony is immense. However, the Japanese can be quite sure of their cause with the new mid-range device. After all, they have improved quite a bit compared to the Xperia 10. Above all, the battery performance cannot be compared with the predecessor models anymore. This namely increased from 2,870 mAh to a proud 4,500 mAh.
Price and availability
In the early summer of this year, it should be so far. Then the Xperia 10 III is to be launched in the colors white, black, blue and pink. However, we do not know anything more about the prices of the upcoming smartphone yet. If they are not too high, Sony will have a really hot iron in the fire. We remain curious.
