Sony Xperia 10 IV: Mid-range smartphone comes with 5,000 mAh battery

The Japanese manufacturer has unveiled its latest mid-range smartphone, the Sony Xperia 10 IV, which is said to mark the “world’s lightest 5G smartphone”. It features a 5,000 mAh battery and improved cameras with optical image stabilizer.

The Sony Xperia 10 IV in detail

Next to the new flagship, the Sony Xperia 10 IV launches into the smartphone mid-range. Here, we rely on a 6.0-inch OLED display in 21:9 format, which does without a notch or punch hole. The wide 21:9 OLED display is 15 percent brighter than the predecessor and is supposed to offer vivid colors. This is made possible by the unique TRILUMINOS DISPLAY for mobile, which is based on Sony’s many years of TV expertise.

In addition, the display can be divided into two areas to show apps next to or below each other. Windows can also be placed on top of each other. With a weight of only 161 grams, the Xperia 10 IV is also extremely light. The height and width of the bezel have been reduced by 1 mm. In addition, the smartphone has an IP65/68 certification, thanks to which the device is water- and dust-resistant.

Snapdragon 695 5G

Inside the Sony Xperia 10 IV, a Snapdragon 695 5G SoC from Qualcomm does its job, which brings new performance cores and a small performance boost compared to the 690 in the predecessor. However, Sony does not mention details about the working memory.

But it does mention the battery. It now has a capacity of 5,000 mAh and is supposed to last for more than a day. Users can also rely on Xperia Adaptive Charging that the battery will still work reliably after three years. As is typical for Sony, there is also a 3.5 mm jack for use with headphones.

Cameras now with OIS

On the rear, the 10 IV relies on a triple camera setup with focal lengths of 16, 27 and 54 mm. The most important innovation in the new edition is the optical image stabilizer (OIS), which is supposed to guarantee blur-free photos and videos. And that even in low-light conditions.

When filming on the go, the unique Optical SteadyShot technology and hybrid image stabilization ensure sharper and smooth shots. There’s also Superior Auto mode, which analyzes the subject and shooting conditions and adjusts ISO or shutter speed accordingly.

An HDR mode is also automatically added when needed to improve the level of detail in the pictures. Selfies additionally benefit from an intelligent AI technology that is supposed to display details like hair, eyebrows and eyelashes well even in indoor shots.

In terms of audio, the Xperia 10 IV offers High-Resolution Audio via the 3.5 mm audio jack and even in combination with wireless headphones in the LDAC codec. DSEE Ultimate also improves the sound quality of digital music. The feature works in real time and uses AI technology to reproduce fine acoustic details and clear, high frequencies that are often lost in audio compression.

There’s also 360 Reality Audio when playing on Amazon Music, Deezer, nugs.net and TIDAL, and that includes upmix, which optimizes and enhances the 2-channel stereo sound in real time.

Price and Availability

The mid-range Sony Xperia 10 IV smartphone is expected to be available in stores from mid-June 2022. It will be offered in black, white, mint and lavender. The MSRP is 499 euros. Anyone who pre-orders an Xperia 10 IV in the period from May 23 to June 30, 2022, will also receive a Sony WF-C500 True Wireless headset for free with the new smartphone.
