Polish gaming peripheral manufacturer SPC Gear has introduced a new USB microphone that is supposed to provide true high-fidelity sound. The SBC Gear Axis marks the start of the new product line and comes in two colors including fancy RGB lighting.
SBC Gear Axis: Rugged microphone in two colors
With the USB microphone SBC Gear Axis, the manufacturer relies on a variable directional pattern. The cardioid mode automatically isolates the speaker’s voice and blocks out background noise as much as possible. It is best suited for streaming or chatting with friends while playing games.
The stereo mode, on the other hand, allows high-quality recordings of instruments and vocals and is supposed to realistically depict spatial depth in particular. Two-way recording (front and rear) makes it convenient to record the conversation between two people sitting across from each other, which is supposed to be an advantage especially for interviews. There is also the omnidirectional mode, which allows easy recording of all ambient sounds.
Pressing the volume control toggles between the different modes of operation, and the selected mode can be easily identified by the four LEDs on the top of the microphone.
USB and jack
The microphone connects via USB Type-C to USB-A cable, while a 3.5mm jack port is also available for connecting a pair of headphones. The sampling rate of the SBC Gear Axis is 24-bit and 192 kHZ, while a frequency band of 30 Hz to 18,000 Hz is said to provide a voluminous and detailed sound.
Available in either black or white, the microphone also features customizable RGB lighting. The lighting offers six different modes with fixed colors like green, cyan, blue, pink, red, yellow, but also a rainbow mode that offers smooth transitions between all colors. The backlight mode button is located on the bottom of the microphone, though it can be completely disabled if desired.
An integrated mute button is also offered on the top of the microphone, which allows muting without pressing a hotkey. Mute activation is indicated by a red LED on the top of the microphone. The microphone is also equipped with a gain control that allows you to conveniently adjust the recording volume if needed.
An integrated anti-vibration mount (Shock Mount) reduces vibration from the 757-gram Axis. A foam pop filter within the microphone structure also blocks unwanted noise.
