SteelSeries Arena 9, 7 and 3: New premium speakers unveiled

With the Arena series, SteelSeries has introduced new premium speakers at gamescom 2022. The top model SteelSeries Arena 9 is a 5.1 surround system that connects via only one USB cable, the Arena 7 is a 2.1 sound system and the Arena 3 presents itself as a stereo speaker pair.

SteelSeries Arena 9 in detail

The SteelSeries Arena 9 is said to be the world’s first 5.1 surround sound system that connects via a single USB connection. It is composed of two wired front speakers with 0.75-inch tweeters and 3-inch woofers, a similarly sized center speaker, two wireless rear speakers (which can also be wall-mounted), and a 6.5-inch subwoofer.

Connecting to PC, Mac, and PlayStation 5/4, the Arena 9 connects via a single USB cable, and is also capable of playing audio via Aux and Bluetooth (version 4.2). A 3.5mm jack for connecting a headset is also provided, as well as an optical Toslink port.

The SteelSeries Arena 9 is conveniently operated via a so-called control pod, which you can place on your desk. An informative OLED display then allows you to fine-tune the audio settings, allows muting, and lets you adjust the sound system’s RGB lighting.

As with the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless gaming headset (our review), Sonar software is used to adjust the sound, allowing for pinpoint tuning. Including 10-band EQ or Acoustical Echo Cancellation.

Sound-wise, the Arena 9 covers a frequency band from 35 Hz to 20,000 Hz and gets a maximum of 100 dB loud. The drivers are said to provide especially high-quality acoustics thanks to organic fibers and a silk coating.

SteelSeries Arena 7 and 3

Slightly below that, the SteelSeries Arena 7 is positioned as a 2.1 sound system that also connects via a single USB cable. A connection via 3.5 mm jack, Bluetooth and optical cable is also offered here.

Otherwise, the speakers’ technical equipment and performance is the same. RGB lighting in four zones is also offered, but it is exclusively available on the PC. However, you’ll have to do without the OLED control pod, which is operated via a rotary wheel with an integrated multifunctional button.

Similarly, the SteelSeries Arena 3 is a pair of 2.0 stereo speakers with 4-inch drivers that connect to PC, Mac or smartphones via 3.5mm jack or connect wirelessly via Bluetooth. It covers a frequency band from 50 Hz to 20,000 Hz and also gets a whopping 100 dB at its peak.

You can adjust the settings on the right speaker via the multifunctional button and also connect a headset via the jack directly on the back.
