Storage increased – Western Digital and SanDisk SSDs now also with 4 TB

Data storage solutions manufacturer Western Digital and brand subsidiary SanDisk have upgraded four of their series in terms of storage technology.

Memory doubled

In the process, the Western Digital P50 Game Drive and My Passport models now come with 4 TB on the market. The subsidiary SanDisk also now offers the Extreme Portable and Extreme Pro Portable with 4 TB. Especially because external SSDs with 4 TB of storage are still rare, the increase is just right. Previously, the four models were only offered with 2 TB, but now the manufacturers are doubling the storage capacities.

Remainder remains as usual

Apart from the storage capacity, nothing will change in the mentioned models. Whether features, format or appearance, everything is to remain unchanged here. Thereby, the SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable transfers data with up to 2,000 MB/s, reading and writing. The SSD’s aluminum casing serves as a heat sink. In contrast, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD comes to a read speed of 1,050 MB/s and a write speed of 1,000 MB/s. The WD_Black P50 Game Drive can easily keep up with this with a read speed of 2,000 MB/s. The My Passport SSD from Western Digital is also on par with the SanDisk Extrem Portable and also achieves a write speed of 1,000 MB/s and a read speed of 1,050 MB/s. The performance data of the SSDs remains the same. The performance data of the SSDs thus remain the same for the increased storage capacity.

Availability and pricing

All four models from Western Digital and SanDisk will hit the market later this year in the first quarter. The SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD with 4 TB of storage will be available for 939.99 euros and the Extreme Portable SSD, also with the aforementioned 4 TB, for 817.99 euros. There is not much change in the Western Digital SSDs, the My Passport SSD is available for 817.99 Euros and the WD_Black P50 SSD with 4 TB for 822.99 Euros. All models come with a 5-year warranty.
