Synology DiskStation DS423+: 4-bay NAS with strong performance

After the compact DS1823+ in early March, Synology now introduces an even smaller, powerful NAS. The Synology DiskStation DS423+ comes with four bays.

The new Synology DiskStation DS423+ comes with four bays, allowing for up to 72 TB of storage. This makes the compact NAS device ideal for freelancers and self-employed people, but also for smaller teams that want to store their data centrally.

DSM on the DS423+ protects data from corruption with the advanced Btrfs file system, and snapshot technology also lets you quickly undo accidental or malicious changes.

The DS423+ has two easily accessible M.2 NVMe slots for fast SSD cache or SSD storage volumes without taking up the four drive bays. Maximum read speeds of 226 MB/s and write speeds of 224 MB/s are also possible.

With the help of Synology Drive, user-friendly sharing and file management is also possible – even on the go and with the data protection level of a local storage solution.

“With the built-in solutions in Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), users can create their own private cloud, organize and stream music, video and photo collections across all devices, collaborate seamlessly with partners, set up an intuitive monitoring system and much more,” the manufacturer promises.

Remote teams and businesses with multiple locations can mirror data between Synology devices with Site-to-Site Sync. Thanks to Synology Hybrid Share, infrequently used files are also stored in the cloud, while frequently used files are available locally and can be accessed faster at LAN speeds.

Can also be used as a server for video surveillance

Thanks to the Synology Surveillance Station video management system, Synology DiskStation DS423xs+ also becomes a server for video surveillance. Over 8,300 tested IP cameras can be integrated thanks to ONVIF support.

With Surveillance Station, up to 40 cameras can be easily set up and managed on the DS423+ in a modern and configurable interface. For monitoring larger locations or multiple buildings, even floor plans and maps from Google Maps or OpenStreetMap can be overlaid.

Recordings are encrypted, backed up and archived, while the optional C2 Surveillance allows simultaneous recordings to the cloud.

Features of the DS423+

The DiskStation DS423+ turns out comparatively compact with a size of 166 mm x 199 mm x 223 mm and weighs only 2.18 kg. The NAS is equipped with an Intel Celeron J4125 processor and 2 GB of DDR4 RAM, which can be expanded up to 6 GB.

In addition to two RJ45 Gigabit LAN ports, two USB 3.2 Gen1 ports are available. The network storage holds a total of four 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA SSDs or HDDs, while two M.2-2280 SSDs can be installed.

Price and Availability
