With the Synology FlashStation FS3410, the manufacturer has introduced a new flash server that is primarily aimed at businesses and professional users. It is equipped with 24 bays and is supposed to enable fast execution of I/O-intensive applications.
Synology FlashStation FS3410 in detail
A flash-only server for professionals, the Synology FlashStation FS3410 comes equipped with 24 slots and promises fast data transfers, extensive connectivity and built-in high availability features. Powered by Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, the FS3410 offers reliable and straightforward solutions for data backup, file sharing, synchronization, and virtualization.
In doing so, the NAS addresses all centralized and distributed enterprise infrastructures such as file servers, VM storage and backup, and business-critical database services as a cost-effective solution.
It offers over 356,500/129,400 iSCSI 4K random read/write IOPS and over 6,950/3,400 MB/s of sequential read/write performance, allowing even huge files to be used quickly and confidently.
Thanks to four 1 Gigabit LAN ports and two 10 GbE ports, the FS3410 is ready for fast communications and is even expandable to 25 GbE or 40 GbE with PCIe 3.0 expansion cards. A dedicated out-of-band (OOB) port also helps system administrators reduce maintenance and troubleshooting efforts.
The manufacturer also packs an Intel Xeon D-1541 8-core (16 threads) processor running at 2.1 GHz, maxing out at 2.7 GHz, and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, which can optionally be expanded up to 128 GB. 24 2.5-inch SATA SSDs find room inside. The NAS in rackmount 2U format measures 88 x 430.5 x 692 mm and weighs around 15 kg.
Certified for VM and Container
The Synology FlashStation FS3410 also helps implement and simplify virtualization environments. And it does so with full certification for VMware, vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and OpenStack. But in doing so, the NAS can also be used as an alternative VM host and is capable of running Docker containers.
Synology’s Virtual Machine Manager is a hosted hypervisor for VMs running Windows, Linux or virtualized versions of Synology DSM, with recovery mechanisms to protect data on each VM.
Also offered are reliable tools for data protection and availability. Among them, for example, Synology High Availability, which makes it possible to grant fast failover between two identical FS3410 units to maintain operation in case of emergency.
Hyper Backup protects the NAS by backing up data and configurations efficiently to multiple destinations, using built-in deduplication, integrity checking, compression and version management.
Collaboration, even remotely
Synology’s Productivity Suite also provides a secure, private cloud solution for local and remote workers to simultaneously edit documents, share files with others, manage email, send instant messages, and more.
Tools range from office and storage applications to a secure email server, one-on-one and group chat, collaborative calendar, and Synology Hybrid Share.
The latter combines reliable local storage and efficient syncing of shared folders in the cloud for seamless cross-site syncing and local access at LAN speeds. Manufacturer-wise, the Synology FlashStation FS3410 also comes with a 5-year warranty.
For more details, check out the official product website. With the Synology DiskStation DS1522+, the manufacturer had introduced a compact storage solution with 5 bays at the end of June 2022, if that’s enough for you. In May, they also showed off the Synology RT6600ax, a new Wi-Fi 6 router with three wireless units.
