Synology unveils upcoming products for cloud

Synology today unveiled exciting new products. With the help of the new hybrid cloud architecture, the experts for network solutions not only want to provide more performance in companies. On top of that, they promise more flexibility and data security. Let’s take a look at what we can expect.

More data security at Synology with DSM 7.2

The company plans to launch DSM 7.2 in early 2023. Thanks to full volume encryption, the latest version should now not only offer more security. On top of that, the storage performance is supposed to be 48 percent higher. The new WORM folders also sound exciting. The abbreviation stands for write once, read many and is supposed to do exactly what the name promises. Thus one would like to protect files from manipulations like changing or even deleting. Also new are so-called hyper backups. These are also supposed to be unchangeable and thus offer a high level of protection against cyberattacks. Synology Drive will also get a new version that focuses on data security. For example, it should be possible to delete data remotely.

For example, if hardware with sensitive data is stolen, the folders can then be deleted without immediate access to the PC. The new scale-out clusters are also scheduled to appear in 2023 and provide faster file and object storage. This should allow server constructs of up to 12 petabytes to operate with a write speed of up to 60 GB/s. On top of that, Synology wants to improve its data protection even further. Here, the new management platform is used, which should not only enable Active Backup, but also C2 Backup. The company promises uncomplicated management, provisioning and monitoring of all aspects of data backup. In this way, IT should always be able to keep an eye on everything, even in companies with large amounts of data.

Keep an eye on everything with video surveillance

Security means for Synology from next year not only data security. On top of that, it also wants to offer enterprise video surveillance with the help of Synology 500 series IP cameras. The camera series is supposed to be able to work extremely efficiently and reliably with the help of practical AI features. Synology talks about intrusion detection, for example, which is supposed to get better and better over time. The Synology 500 series is said to be composed of two different models. While the technology is identical, they differ in form factor. In addition to 5-MP sensors, the cameras offer 2,880 x 1,620 pixel (3K) resolution and IP67 weatherproofing.

Hybrid cloud services as hobbyhorse

Furthermore, Synology promises to expand its Active Insight. From now on, the company wants to enable its users to better track activities in their own cloud. In particular, administrators should be able to see access to files or logins. This should prevent data loss. New automatisms are also intended to ensure greater security. For example, if a certain threshold of transferred files is reached, rules can be triggered or warnings sent.

This is to be able to protect against foreign and potentially dangerous files that have been infiltrated by third parties. The company’s own product family called Synology C2 Identity is also expected to grow. According to the manufacturer, the updates are supposed to provide higher comfort and more security. For example, they want to enable local and online logins on the devices. Synchronization with services like Windows Hello or Apple Face ID sounds cool. That combines security with uncomplicated ease of use, at least in theory.

Synology presents new router with WiFi 6

With the new router, Synology does not seem to make any compromises and rely on state-of-the-art technology. However, the WRX560 is supposed to come along cheaper than the previous flagship in the form of the RTX6600ax did. In addition to fast wireless connections via integrated dual-band, a 2.5GbE LAN/WAN port should also enable reliable LAN connections. You can grab the new Synology WRX560 starting November 2 at an MSRP of $209.
