Tata Tiago.ev: E-car from India launches for the equivalent of under 11,000 euros

Manufacturer Tata is India’s largest carmaker. With the Tata Tiago.ev, it has now presented a compact electric car that is intended to promote electromobility in the country, primarily thanks to its low entry price. The car costs around 10,600 euros.

Tata Tiago.ev presented

The Tata Tiago.ev is the all-electric variant of Tata Motors’ Tiago, which was released back in 2016. In this case, electrification is an absolute specialty in India, so the manufacturer is giving the new ev model its own website.

The Tiago.ev is offered in different variants. In the particularly low-priced entry-level model, for example, prospective buyers will have to do without the 17.78 cm touchscreen infotainment system from Harman, as well as most of the comfort functions.

All models come to a length of 3769 mm and are equipped with at least a 45 hp electric motor. Thanks to sport mode, however, acceleration from 0 to 60 km/h in 6.2 seconds should still be possible – here the manufacturer cheats a little and simply converts the usual mph value, which corresponds to the common form of the acceleration specification from 0 to 100 km/h, converted.

Up to 315 km range

A battery with a capacity of 19.2 kilowatt hours is used, which – depending on the model – should enable a range of between 250 km and 315 km. However, measured according to the MIDC (Modified Indian Driving Cycle), whose regulations are much looser than those of the NEDC or WLTP.

However, it should still be enough for city traffic in Indian cities. Charging is done with a maximum of 7.4 kW on AC, but a DC fast charging station can also be used.

However, the manufacturer does not specify the speed. However, the charging process from 10 to 80 percent should take about an hour.

Visually, the Tata Tiago.ev certainly looks the part, with a sporty grille, bright LED lights and a sporty, chic interior. Other features include a start/stop button, fully automatic air conditioning and an electric tailgate.

The Tiago.ev is scheduled for delivery in India from January 2023. Prices start at 849,000 Indian rupees, which is equivalent to just under 10,700 euros. The ev is unlikely to make it to Europe. In this country, Hyundai wants to launch two affordable small electric cars for under 20,000 euros.
