Tesla Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid launch in Europe

The two high-performance electric cars Tesla Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid are launching in Europe. As the U.S. automaker revealed in a press release, the 1,000-plus horsepower e-cars are scheduled for delivery in Europe before the end of 2022. Orders are available now.

Tesla Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid: Ordering possible in Europe

While it was previously only possible to reserve the two powerful e-cars Tesla Model S and Model X Plaid, both variants can now be customized and officially ordered in the automaker’s configurator (called: Design Studio).

Accordingly, they have been updated with the “latest specifications, options and pricing,” Tesla said in the press release. Common to both models is a peak output of 1,020 horsepower, which at least recently gave the sleek Tesla S Plaid an impressive speed record of 348 km/h.

The first ordered vehicles are scheduled to be delivered in this country before the end of November and December 2022, while the base versions of the Model S and the Model X Dual Motor with all-wheel drive will also be delivered in Europe for the first time starting next year.

Both Plaid versions are said to have undergone “substantial” revisions since their initial launches in 2013 and 2016, respectively. The improvements include, for example, a new interior, new powertrains, new electronics and a revised chassis.

At the same time, however, the U.S. automaker has been able to reduce weight and thus aims to offer a “whole new level in terms of luxury, technology and, of course, performance”. Prices, on the other hand, have risen significantly.

What do Tesla Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid cost?

Both Plaid models feature a premium infotainment system with AMD Ryzen CPU. The 17-inch touchscreen swivels left-right and offers a resolution of 2,200 x 1,300 pixels.

“Up to 10 teraflops of processing power enables in-car gaming on par with the latest gaming consoles. Thanks to compatibility with wireless controllers and headsets, you can play from any seat,” Tesla promises.

This is joined in both models by a 960-watt audio system with 22 speakers and Active Road Noise Reduction, which is said to actively suppress road noise and allow for immersive, studio-quality audio enjoyment.

Model S Plaid in detail

Marking the more affordable of the two electric cars is the Tesla Model S Plaid, which can currently be ordered with tri-motor all-wheel drive at a price of 137,900 euros.

The sleek sedan accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 2.1 seconds and offers a maximum speed of 322 km/h. The range, according to WLTP estimates, is given as 600 kilometers.

There are a total of five paint finishes to choose from in the design studio. In addition to the classic white variant (Pearl White Multi-Coat), the colors Solid Black, Midnight Silver Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic and Red Multi-Coat are available at extra cost.

You can replace the standard 19-inch wheels with bulky 21-inch Arachnid wheels if you wish. For the interior, there are three color options to choose from, while you can optionally add more assistance or equipment packages.

Model X Plaid starts from 140,990 euros

The Tesla Model X Plaid, on the other hand, is a bit more expensive, starting at a base price of 140,990 euros, and will also be available for delivery in Europe by the end of 2022. For the price, there’s also 1,020 hp, which accelerates the e-all-wheeler from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds.

However, the maximum speed here is limited to 262 km/h, while the maximum range according to WLTP estimates is 528 kilometers. The choice of paint finishes is the same, but the Model X Plaid already comes with 20-inch wheels from the factory, which can optionally be replaced by 22-inchers.

This shows again that not only the two normal Model S and Model X in Europe are affected by the price increase, but precisely also the Plaid variants.
