Tesla models are now only available in the USA without the “boombox

And once again, Tesla has to give its vehicles a suitable update. This time, it was the so-called “boombox” feature that pissed off the US authorities. This is not at all intended to ensure more safety in road traffic. Quite the opposite. The unusual noises should even increase the risk of accidents.

580,000 cars affected

Tesla’s “Boombox” is seen by many drivers of the popular e-cars as a funny gimmick. Here you can optionally change your horn signal to more atypical sounds such as a fart or a saxophone. This is now a thing of the past. According to the responsible U.S. authority, this is supposed to create accident risks for pedestrians. The sounds are played via the same loudspeaker system that emits the driving noises prescribed for electric cars. This is not designed for such gimmicks.

Another recall for Musk

Now the little tech gimmick has unnerving consequences for CEO Elon Musk. He has to relieve nearly 580,000 Model 3, Model S, Model X and Model Y vehicles of the “boombox” feature as part of a recall. After all, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this leads to the fact that you can no longer hear the simulated vehicle sounds of the speakers. This is quite understandable. After all, you don’t expect to hear a car when you hear goat sounds.

Update without a workshop visit

Fortunately, Tesla has relied on over-the-air updates since the beginning anyway. These make it possible to adjust the vehicle accordingly without a workshop visit. With the update that is now to follow, the “boombox” feature is then to be abolished. We are already curious when Tesla will announce the next recall.
