Tesla recall: Around 475,000 vehicles must go back to the workshop

Mass recall at Tesla. Around 475,000 vehicles are being ordered back to the workshops worldwide. The reason for this is faults in the trunk locking systems and problems with the rearview camera, which first need to be fixed. Tesla Model 3 and Model S are particularly affected.

Preventive mass recall at Tesla

Nearly 475,000 electric vehicles made by Tesla will have to go back to the repair shop because they may be affected by a defective design. As The Verge reports, the company is therefore recalling affected e-cars as a precaution.

According to internal estimates on the part of Tesla, it says that only one percent of Model 3 vehicles actually have the defect. For the Model S, on the other hand, the defect rate could be 14 percent. Here, the defect is said to primarily affect the front trunk latch, which could be misaligned.

As a result, the secondary latch of the hood may not engage properly, as Tesla announced in an official notice to the NHTSA, according to The Verge. On the Model 3, on the other hand, Tesla says opening and closing the trunk could cause damage to the wiring harness that attaches the rearview camera. There is a risk of complete failure of the camera.

Problem can be solved quickly

According to the automotive company, however, the problems are easy to fix. By repositioning the locking device in a service center, the fault in the Model S could be brought under control. Model 3 owners, on the other hand, were assured by Tesla that a new wiring harness and guide guard would be installed free of charge.

Affected by the Tesla recall are all Tesla Model 3s delivered between 2017 and 2020, as well as “certain” models of the Tesla Model S. Documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that a total of 475,318 vehicles are affected by the recall. These are broken down into 356,309 Model 3s and 119,109 Model Ss.
