Tesla sets new profit record

Tesla’s flight of fancy doesn’t seem to stop. The e-car maker has once again been able to rake in a hefty profit. According to company information, this comprises a proud 5.5 billion US dollars in 2021.

2021 is the Tesla year

Since Tesla has been selling its vehicles at manageable prices, Model 3, Y, X and S have been bought like hot cakes. The Model 3 in particular, as the manufacturer’s entry-level model, is probably not without reason one of the most popular electric cars on the market. The success is also reflected in the latest figures. With a profit of 5.5 billion US dollars, 2021 will go down in history as the most successful year for the company to date. It is truly amazing what Elon Musk has achieved with his car company so far.

And the uphill climb seems to be far from over. The fourth quarter of last year, in particular, had Tesla’s coffers ringing. The company made a whopping 2.3 billion US dollars in profits during the fall and winter months. Tesla has thus surpassed its previous record of 1.6 billion US dollars in one quarter. The company set this, how could it be otherwise, in the third quarter of 2021.

Electric cars are finally ready for the masses

Tesla itself interprets its own record, by the way, not only as a confirmation of its own vehicles. The U.S. carmaker sees it rather as clarifying that electric cars have finally achieved a breakthrough in 2021. The fact that Tesla’s vehicles in particular are well received is also reflected above all in the sheer sales figures. The company delivered a proud 936,000 vehicles in 2021. Compared to the previous year, the number has thus increased by 87 percent.

Managing demand as a major goal

Meeting global demand is arguably the biggest challenge Tesla currently faces. To achieve this goal, the company probably needs to expand its production as quickly as possible. New plants such as the one in Grünheide (Brandenburg) or the USA (Texas) should help to ensure supply. Nevertheless, when announcing the figures, the company somewhat dampened hopes that the current supply problems would soon improve. There are still bottlenecks that are causing an extended supply chain. Here, the company is probably referring primarily to the well-known problem of the semiconductor shortage.
