Teufel Cage (2020): New edition of a top gaming headset

The Berlin-based loudspeaker specialist Teufel has presented its first gaming headset, the Cage 2017. At that time, the headset already impressed us (to test it), but Teufel didn’t rest on his laurels, but is now taking it to the next level with a new edition.

The Teufel Cage (2020) Gaming-Headset should now offer even better sound characteristics as well as a higher wearing comfort. However, the price of 170 Euro is the same as the Teufel Cage (2017). The Teufel Cage (2019), as Teufel now calls the model already introduced in 2017, will continue to be offered alongside the new model. Since it will be available in 6-7 weeks according to Teufel’s shop, it can be assumed that it is not a remainder of stock. The price of the old model has been reduced to 129,99 Euro.

What remains the same?

The Teufel Cage (2020) retains the connection diversity of its predecessor. Besides the connection via USB to use the integrated sound card, the connection via 3.5 mm jack cable is still possible. The controls for controlling the system are still located directly on the earcup and these are still equipped with red LED lighting.

What’s been changed?

Both the sound reproduction and the recording quality are said to have been improved.

The microphone boom is now slightly shorter and the microphone is equipped with a windscreen.

Furthermore, there is now an additional button on the auricle of the Teufel Cage (2020), which can be assigned its own functions.

Furthermore, the headband has been changed, which is now a little rounder and should therefore increase the wearing comfort.

This all sounds reasonable, but unfortunately there are also disadvantages that the new version brings with it. For example, the microphone could previously be connected on both sides, but this is no longer possible with the new version.

Tests will show whether it’s worth buying the new headset, or whether it’s better to go for the first generation, which is apparently still being sold.
