The Toyota bZ4X has a screw loose: e-car affected by recall action

It has been just two weeks since the automaker presented a new e-car brand with the Toyota bZ4X. Now the Japanese manufacturer has already had to recall the new e-SUV. Because of loose wheel bolts, it can sometimes happen that a wheel comes loose by itself while driving.

Toyota bZ4X recall

The scenario resembles a horror scenario. While driving the Toyota bZ4X, a wheel bolt may suddenly come loose. For this reason, the Japanese automaker is recalling its just-launched crossover e-SUV, as reported by the website The Verge.

About 2,700 vehicle models are said to be affected, of which 2,200 were shipped to Europe. The rest is split between North America (280 e-cars), Japan (110 models) and 60 vehicles for the rest of the Asian market. However, most of the vehicles have not yet been delivered to end customers, it adds.

Nevertheless, Toyota is advising owners not to continue driving the Toyota bZ4X under any circumstances until the problem is fixed. Instead, those affected should contact their local dealers, who will transport the E-SUV to the workshop and repair it free of charge.

Toyota itself apparently does not yet know what the cause of the loosening wheel bolts is. The automaker is still getting to the bottom of it at the moment, according to reports.

E-car recalls are increasing

While demand for electric cars has been steadily increasing, problems have been mounting, especially in recent months, and so have recalls. Most recently, for example, some 50,000 Ford Mustang Mach-Es in the U.S. had to be recalled due to problems with the contactor of the high-voltage battery.

Lucid Motors also has to recall its Lucid Air e-car model in the US. The reason here is faulty wiring. While on the other hand Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are struggling with brake problems.

The ongoing problems with electric cars could cause a drop in orders among customers, but the market is still in danger of collapsing due to an entirely different set of problems. This is because German Finance Minister Christian Lindner of the FDP plans to simply reduce the premium for e-cars away from 2023 in order to save the federal budget billions.

Dangerous for consumers and annoying for Toyota, because the bZ4X was supposed to mark the first step into a new era for automakers and the beginning of a whole new platform. For example, a slightly updated version is scheduled to launch later this year, which should offer a more powerful onboard charger. Toyota also wants to offer a customized solar roof for the bZ4X soon.
