CD PROJEKT RED caused a sensation at this year’s Game Awards in Los Angeles. The release of the first trailer for The Witcher IV officially heralded a new chapter in the popular game series. The trailer, which lasts almost six minutes, provides a cinematic insight into the new saga and introduces Ciri as the main character for the first time.
The Witcher IV: Ciri becomes the protagonist
The game follows on from the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PS5: € 30.96 *, Xbox Series X/S: € 27.83 *, PC: € 41.19 *, Nintendo Switch: € 169.00 *) and brings the series into a new era. The story focuses on Ciri, a sorceress seeking her way in a dark, open fantasy world. In the trailer, she accepts a mission in a remote village suffering from a monster.

The successful formula of the series can once again be seen here. Ciri doesn’t just have to fight beasts. The villagers’ prejudices and superstitions are obviously also a problem once again. The world of The Witcher thus remains true to its reputation for being complex and morally multi-layered. The predecessor already scored with some of the most gripping quests in video game history. And this was also packed into exciting optional side quests outside of the main story. It is not without reason that The Witcher 3 made it onto our list of the best PS5 games.
The Witcher IV: Unreal Engine 5 is used
CD PROJEKT RED obviously doesn’t want to leave anything to chance when it comes to technology either. The team is developing The Witcher IV with an adapted Unreal Engine 5, and the trailer already shows some really impressive graphics. According to the developers, they used a yet-to-be-announced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU for rendering. CD PROJEKT RED promises that this will be the most ambitious and immersive open-world game in the series.
Sebastian Kalemba, the game director, explained that the decision to put Ciri at the center of the new saga was long planned.
“Having Ciri as the protagonist just feels right. We want to show what it means to be a witcher and accompany Ciri on this journey.”
Sebastian Kalemba, Game Director
