Thömus Lightrider E Ultimate: E-MTB weighs only 14.6 kg

The Thömus Lightrider E Ultimate wants to be the lightest full-suspension e-mountain bike in the world. The cross-country e-MTB from the Swiss manufacturer once again clearly undercuts the 20 kg mark and comes to a net weight of only 14.6 kg. But the technology behind it is also absolutely impressive.

Thömus Lightrider E Ultimate: Electric Fully for professionals

The low curb weight of only 14.6 kg is the flagship of the Thömus Lightrider E Ultimate, which the manufacturer from Switzerland has presented there now. Already since the winter of 2021, they have been working with drive specialists maxon to break records in the Crosscountry World Cup.

It is supposed to be able to be driven by the light weight like an E-MTB without motor and also look almost like that. Maxon contributes its lightweight Bikedrive Air motor, which comes to a power of 220 watts at a torque of 30 Nm and weighs only 3.5 kg itself. Overall, you end up with a weight of 14.6 kg – once again significantly less than, for example, the full carbon S-Pedelc Specter 1.

The battery hides almost invisibly in the down tube and comes to a capacity of 250 watt hours. It is fully charged in 3.5 hours. In addition, a range extender with another 250 watts is offered on request, but the manufacturer did not provide details on the range. Presumably, since this depends strongly on the respective terrain.

Large selection of components

The E-MTB is offered optionally in red, black or white and is always enthroned on 29-inch Schwalbe Nobby Nic tires. As a suspension fork, a Marzocchi Bomber Z2 140mm 29 “is used.

Both applies to the cheapest model Thömus Lightrider E Ultimate XT Red, while in the other two models Schwalbe Racing tires and a suspension fork from FOX or DT Swiss is used. It is similar with the shocks.

Stem and handlebars come in all three models from Thömus itself, while the circuit comes from the XT or XR series of Shimano or from Deore. In the configurator, you can also customize the Lightrider E Ultimate extensively and choose, for example, between 180 mm and 203 mm disc brakes. There are also a number of options for the handlebars, grips and saddle.

There are also three frame sizes to choose from for riders up to 170 cm (XS/S), 168 to 185 cm (M/L) or from 180 cm (L/XL).
