If e-bikes have an Achilles’ heel, it’s probably the weight of many models. After all, quite a few two-wheelers with an electric motor and heavy battery weigh over 20 kg. The Thömus Swissrider Urban tries to eliminate this shortcoming. Thanks to a featherweight carbon frame, the e-bike weighs just 11.5 kg.
Thömus Swissrider Urban is a real lightweight
Carbon is increasingly gaining acceptance in the bicycle industry. This has long been true not only for professional racing bikes. Especially in the production of e-bikes one makes use of the advantages of the material. It scores not only with its extremely low weight. On top of that, it can offer a robustness that prevents damage. The best of both worlds. The Urtopia Carbon One (test) has already proven how good bikes with carbon frames can be. Despite its integrated battery and powerful motor, it was easy to carry up the stairs. At 11.5 kg, however, the Thömus Swissrider Urban is nearly another 3 kg lighter and draws level with the recently introduced Orbea Gain.
Thömus hides motor and battery
But the Thömus Swissrider Urban, unlike Orbea’s latest road bike, doesn’t want to be used only on the race track. Instead, it should be able to be used optimally in everyday city life. But you should also be able to have fun on the e-bike far away from the asphalt. After all, with the right tires it can also be used as a gravel bike on dirt roads. However, the motorized bike does not only want to score with driving fun, but also with its stylish look. The manufacturer hides the motor and battery to create a clean overall look. This pleases the eyes of bicycle aesthetes.
Technology enthusiasts, in turn, will like the look at the data of the e-bike. The cheapest version comes with a 250 Wh battery. In the top version, on the other hand, it offers a remarkable 426 Wh. In general, the Thömus Swissrider Urban offers various customization options. Saddle, gears, tires, grips and even the pedals can be configured here. The motor comes from maxon and is said to offer 30 Nm. In order to be able to view data on the battery, speed and Co. during the ride, the e-bike comes with a display, which was integrated into the top tube.
Prices and availability
In the basic version (Swissrider Flat SLX), the Thömus Swissrider Urban goes to the start at an MSRP of 4,910 Swiss francs (about 4,902 euros). The cheapest version, however, comes without mudguards and luggage rack. Even on a lighting you must do without here. However, you can have these accessories retrofitted for a surcharge. Alternatively, there are two other configurations in the form of XT and XTR. These are of course also associated with a surcharge.
