Trek Domane+ AL 5: New e-bike introduced

The manufacturer Trek has presented a new e-bike with the Domane+ AL 5, which can hardly be distinguished visually from an ordinary road bike. It is supposed to score points with a lightweight aluminum frame. The battery capacity is noticeably low, but can be expanded.

E-bike in racing bike optics

The new Domane+ AL 5 e-bike is inconspicuously designed and visually hardly distinguishable from a conventional road bike. This is also due to the fact that the battery is completely housed in the down tube of the bike and is thus not visible from the outside. The motor, which is mounted in front of the rear wheel, is also barely recognizable as such. Trek thus joins the trend of no longer clearly labeling e-bikes as such. Other manufacturers such as Fiido are also going down this path with their new e-bikes.

The bike is largely made of aluminum. This is the reason for its low weight – in the size variant 56 it is only 14.06 kilograms. In addition to aluminum frame, battery and motor, it has Bontrager Paradigm rims with 32C tires. Those who want to use the bike without mudguards have the option of replacing the 32C tires with larger 38C tires. Furthermore, there is the option to mount a luggage rack. In total, the Domane+ AL 5 carries up to 125 kilograms.

Battery capacity of 250 Wh

The battery, which is hidden in the down tube, has a capacity of 250 Wh – which is relatively low compared to competitor bikes. Nevertheless, it is supposed to achieve a range of up to 90 kilometers. There is also the option of mounting a second battery on the water bottle holder. In this way, the range of the e-bike can be doubled.

The motor, meanwhile, offers 250 watts of power as well as 40 Nm of torque. The equipment of the Domane+ AL 5 is rounded off by a 105er shifting group with 11 gears and disc brakes from Shimano. The shifting group also comes from this manufacturer.

Thanks to Blendr stem lighting elements as well as holders for cell phones or navigation devices can also be installed in front of the handlebar. This provides additional comfort during use. Also convenient to use are the controls attached to the brake lever rubbers, which can be used to switch between different support modes.

Trek Domane+ AL 5: price and availability

Available will be the new e-bike from Trek in six size variants. In any case, the price is around 3,500 euros. When the bike will be available to order is not yet known. However, a shop page already exists.
